Meet Shardae Yancey

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shardae Yancey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Shardae , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I developed my confidence and self esteem by finding techniques to encourage myself. I have dealt with low self esteem my entire life and I just never felt like I was good enough, pretty enough, smart enough. I started surrounding myself around positive people that would encourage me and also relying on God to help me overcome this challenge. My prayer life increased DAILY! I began to write little notes to attach to my mirror so that I could look at every morning and help build myself up. It starts within and you have to really begin to love yourself in order to overcome.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a 37 year old woman who is a mother to 3 wonderful boys. I am in the early education field and teaching young children is my passion. I am a 3 1/2 year brain aneurysm survivor. October 28, 2025 will make 4 years. I have been on a journey full of ups and downs which inspired me to write a book called Surviving The Fight. It talks about all of the challenges I have experienced in my youth into adulthood. How I overcame low self esteem, being accepted, overcoming abuse (physically and emotionally) and just trying to function being a single mother.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities that were most impactful in my journey that I learned are, Emotional intelligence, resilience and communication. Through the challenges that I have faced throughout life, I had to learn how to trust God and know that I can conquer anything no matter how many times I fall. It’ starts within your mind. You have to speak life into yourself so you can become that empowered human being. You have to also communicate when something is wrong. I learned that holding things in creates more stress. It’s best to talk it out with someone that you can trust, whether it be a close friend, a therapist, a family member etc. Even if you don’t have someone physically to talk to, write your thoughts out in a journal. This is a way to release the stress.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

I would say my biggest area of growth/improvement is taking care of myself. I continue to do things that keep me uplifted and encouraged. I realized that I don’t need someone to constantly tell me that I’m beautiful, that I’m worthy, that I’m more then enough, when I can look in the mirror and do it myself.
