We were lucky to catch up with Sharday Adams-Lee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sharday, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Remove the “looks like me” mentality. In other words recognizing and applying the truth that my identity is not wrapped up in what I look like. My identity is in the Messiah and in doing so, I am able to see or search for like fruit in a room rather than clothing, style, gender, skin color, etc. This takes a committed effort but I am committed to it fully in my business and personal life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I believe what i do is evolving everyday as it is honestly servant work in the realm of education and family support. “She Speaks” is a multifaceted business that is focused on public speaking and liaison work in education for underserved families. In education, i look to provide a family approach to the gap in education that plagues certain areas within our society. In doing so, the goal is to provide solutions that could ultimately change the trajectory of their family dynamic by providing access to resources and alternate routes to uplift the family unit. In public speaking, the goal is to inspire through my story of redemption through Christ as I travel the narrow road with intention. My prayer is simply to disciple through true testimony.
I am currently allowing God to build my team to help me with the vision. Stay tuned for what is to come!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If i had to choose three; faith, accountability, the willingness to stand alone. These three combined allowed me to self examine according to my beliefs which aided in the removal of the unnecessary or unproductive ANYTHING, no matter the form; person, place, thing, thought, or habit. In doing so it gives me the courage to stand alone if i have to.
If you are early in your journey, I would say don’t be afraid to ask/seek guidance in wise spaces and upon it’s receipt listen AND apply.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I would have to say, aside from “The Good Book”, there is a book called ” The Shack” by William P. Young that is probably my favorite thus far.
My favorite nugget is “Living unloved is like clipping a bird’s wings and removing it’s ability to fly….”. The love mentioned here is the love of God. Living with God’s love encompasses it’s absence of conditions, conviction, correction, and guidance all unparalleled. It’s refreshing and incomparable.
