We were lucky to catch up with Sharday Mcgee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sharday, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I keep my creativity alive by constantly seeking inspiration from different sources—whether it’s through social media, the old school PBS cooking shows or some new food network cooking competition, engaging in meaningful conversations, or even stepping away from work to reset my mind spending time with my fiancé or painting. I also challenge myself to experiment with new ideas, even if they seem unconventional at first. Surrounding myself with other creative people and staying open to feedback helps me refine my ideas and push my boundaries. Most importantly, I make time for rest and reflection because I’ve learned that creativity flows best when I’m not forcing it.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m Sharday McGee, the owner and creative force behind Bouji Bites, a catering business that brings bold flavors and upscale presentation to every event. What makes Bouji Bites special is my commitment to turning simple ingredients into unforgettable experiences—whether it’s through corporate catering, private events, or my exclusive Bouji Bites experiences.
One of the most exciting things about my brand is how I blend food with community and connection. I recently launched a series of Bouji Bites events that go beyond just dining; they create immersive experiences where guests can enjoy great food, sound healing, and meaningful conversations. These events are designed to nourish both body and soul, making each one unique and memorable.
I’m also expanding Bouji Bites by creating a dedicated website for event ticket sales, making it even easier for people to be part of these exclusive experiences. Whether you’re looking for catering that impresses or an event that brings people together in a special way, Bouji Bites delivers luxury, flavor, and connection every time.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three key qualities that have been most impactful in my journey with Bouji Bites are adaptability, creativity, and relationship-building.
Adaptability has been crucial because the food industry is constantly changing. From navigating supply chain issues to shifting customer preferences, I’ve had to stay flexible and open to new ways of doing things. For those starting out, my advice is to embrace change and stay solution-oriented. Challenges will come, but how you respond to them will define your success.
Creativity has set Bouji Bites apart. I’ve learned that food isn’t just about taste—it’s about presentation, experience, and storytelling. Whether I’m curating a corporate catering menu or hosting an immersive Bouji Bites event, I always look for ways to surprise and delight my guests. For those looking to improve their creativity, I’d say: expose yourself to different cultures, flavors, and experiences. Don’t be afraid to experiment, even if it means stepping outside of your comfort zone.
Finally, relationship-building has been the foundation of my business. Success isn’t just about what you know, but who you connect with. My clients, collaborators, and community have all played a role in my growth. For those just starting, I recommend networking with intention—seek genuine connections, provide value, and always follow up. Strong relationships can open doors that hard work alone cannot.
No matter where you are in your journey, stay curious, stay resilient, and never stop learning.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been in stepping into my role as both a visionary and a business owner. When I started Bouji Bites, my passion for food and creativity drove everything, but this past year has taught me the importance of balancing that creativity with strong business strategy.
I’ve improved in areas like pricing my services confidently, streamlining operations, and setting clear boundaries to protect both my time and energy. I’ve also expanded my focus beyond just catering to curating experiences, launching my Bouji Bites events, and creating a new platform for ticket sales. Learning to trust myself, delegate when necessary, and embrace the mindset of long-term growth has been transformative.
This year has been all about leveling up—recognizing that I’m not just running a business, I’m building a brand and a legacy.
