We were lucky to catch up with Shareka Bankston recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shareka, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose after being in church one Sunday and my pastor was speaking on purpose. I have always been a helper and giver by nature so my purpose has been tied to helping others. I really began walking in my purpose when I was laid off and became a personal trainer. I have always been disciplined with my workouts for over 15 years. People would always reach out to me asking for workouts etc. This started my #getupandgetmoving movement. I want to be a vessel to help motivate others to be a healthier better version of themselves. Just to start with 30 minute workouts.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am Your Favorite Fitness Friend who is working mom who is passionate about Fitness and motivating others to #getupandgetmoving. Whether working out for the first time or you haven’t worked out in a long time, I dedicate myself to helping individuals become knowledgeable about health and wellness. I currently host 4-week Bootcamps in Forney,Tx that allows women to come together and workout without the pressure of a gym. I also do one on one and virtual training sessions as well. I have created a digital 6-week fitness guide that has everything you need to get started on your fitness journey. It has meal ideas, a weekly progress tracker, workouts, a supplement guide and much more. I try to offer something for everyone no matter the stage of their fitness journey.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Hard work, Dedication and Perseverance.
Never let a “NO” stop you from achieving your goals. Set a Goal and keep going no matter how hard things may seem. There will be others that doubt you or won’t see your vision but move in silence and allow God to direct your path.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I pray and affirm what I know to be true. My faith is what keeps me grounded on the hard days and good days. I remember the scripture “ No Weapon formed against me shall prosper” and This too shall pass! Something to always remember is that “It could always be worse.” These are things that I’m remind myself of when I feel overwhelmed.
