We were lucky to catch up with Sharissa Sebastian Deppen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sharissa, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
My purpose became clear to me later in my life. When I was in high school trying to figure out who I wanted to be when I grew up, I was completely lost and had no clear path to figure that out. My dad pointed out that I was good at math and science and encouraged me to look into a career in technology, which was the upcoming career field at the time. I ended up getting a degree as a software engineer and so began my career in tech. When I became a single mom, I struggled with trying to juggle work and life, as work became more demanding. I realized (thanks to finding a coach) that my career wasn’t really aligned with how I was wired or what I was passionate about and that started my journey towards becoming a coach. As I prayed about what was to be next for me, God kept putting coaching in front of me (through coaches, assessments I took, people I spoke with, etc). There were many indications and I felt at complete peace about following that path once I enrolled in a coaching program. It wasn’t until I began coaching that I truly felt like I was doing purposeful work and I haven’t stopped. It continues to be so freeing and rewarding to me and I’m very grateful to get to serve the people I’m blessed to serve!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m passionate about supporting introverted servant leaders who are women in corporate leadership because I consider myself an introverted servant leader and there are many challenges I had to overcome when I worked in the corporate world. I’ve also seen this through the decade that I’ve spent coaching many introverted leaders. This, together with my love for learning, teaching and coaching, allows me to connect well with my ideal client and give them the support they need to thrive at work. I enjoy helping to empower purpose-driven women in corporate leadership to amplify their impact and influence, aligning personal aspirations with professional success without sacrificing time and energy.
I recently started a podcast called the Introverted Servant Leader that I’m very excited about. I’ve been getting some great feedback on the content, especially since there isn’t much support or specific resources for this group of women. The show can be found here… www.leadershipmasteryalliance.com/podcast
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The biggest skill I’ve developed through my career was to trust in God’s plan for me and follow where He leads, no matter how scary it is. I’ve been able to attract many opportunities and get the support I need to serve at my highest level every step of the way, as a result of doing this and being surrounded by a strong community.
The area of knowledge I’m most passionate about is introverted servant leadership and learning as much as possible to support this group of women.
Examples of areas of focus are…
1. Executive Presence
2. Building a strong professional brand
3. Growing and leading high performing, highly motivated teams
4. Leadership Mindset
5. Your Leadership Zone of Genius
6. Effective Decision-Making
7. What creates a standout leader everyone wants to follow
8. Skillfully navigating conflict and difficult conversations
9. Building strong professional relationships
10. Faith and work
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I would love to collaborate with other podcasters who have leadership related shows or podcasts for working women.
