Meet Sharlene White

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sharlene White. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sharlene below.

Hi Sharlene, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Losing my parents along with my brother between the ages of 10-13, could have effectively send me down a path that wasn’t ideal. Being adopted by my Aunt who showed me that I can be anything that I wanted to be besides weak have really suck with me throughout my life. After having my second child, my husband and I knew we needed a home where our kids can feel safe and play in the yard. I was told we couldn’t buy a house while going to school and working a part time job. Well I proved them wrong. I fixed our credit and found a wonderful realtor who lead us into the right direction. Shout to Dominique Alkins. A year later we bought our starter home. We eventually sold and bought our second home where all three children enjoy living. Starting my photography business definitely scares me but I use that as motivation. Most of my most wonderful moments happened when I was scared. So I say do it.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Lene Lens Photography is all about encapsulating stories within photographs. We aim to make each photographic experience a journey of discovery, capturing not just moments, but the emotions and stories they hold. We also believe in embracing every aspect of oneself, celebrating strength, and accepting perceived flaws as part of one’s beauty. A few things that will be happening soon are a model call to represent the new mission of Lene Lens Photography. Also I will be stepping into the filmmaking world in the coming months.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that I think were most impactful for my journey was consistency, being optimistic and dreaming. I do believe that being consistent is so important. The more you practice your craft you will see the elevation in your skills. It took me a while to get to this point of being consistent mostly because of imposter syndrome but I’m working through that by being optimistic. You have to believe that you will succeed. You have to believe that there is only one you and nobody can do what you can do. Never stop dreaming. There is always ways to go further in your craft. I think dreaming help to keep me excited about my craft.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My best friend and sister in love Melissa V. Neal has been my rock in this journey. She trusted and believed in me with some of her biggest projects when I didn’t believe in myself. She has introduced me to other photographers who are very knowledgeable and so willing to help me with certain challenges that may arise. I have also used YouTube to learn about new techniques to develop my skills. Having people that will push you to do nothing but your best while also pushing your creativity is key. Surround yourself with people who are passionate and more knowledgeable about the business you’re in. Remember to never compare yourself to others.
