We recently connected with Sharnell Smith and have shared our conversation below.
Sharnell, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I believe my resilience comes from a combination of personal experiences and mindset. Growing up, I learned to navigate challenges by seeing them as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles. My support system, whether it’s family, friends, or mentors, has played a significant role in helping me bounce back when things get tough. I also rely on a positive mindset and a strong sense of purpose, which helps me stay focused on what matters even when setbacks happen. I try to view failure as part of the process rather than a reason to quit.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
“I’m the founder and owner of KLHxCollection, a beauty brand specializing in premium hair care products and luxury extensions. Our mission is to empower individuals by providing high-quality products that not only enhance beauty but also promote self-confidence. We’ve carefully curated our product line to ensure that each item, whether it’s a nourishing hair treatment or a luxurious set of extensions, reflects our commitment to excellence.
What excites me most about KLHxCollection is the ability to offer products that truly make a difference in the lives of our customers. I’ve always been passionate about hair care, and being able to blend luxury with functionality in my products is something I’m incredibly proud of. I’m also inspired by the stories I hear from our customers—how our extensions or hair care solutions have helped them feel more confident and beautiful in their own skin. It’s rewarding knowing that KLHxCollection plays a part in making them feel their best.
Looking ahead, we’re gearing up for an exciting relaunch in the summer of 2025. We’ve been working on new formulas, expanding our range, and perfecting our luxury extensions to ensure that our customers have an even better experience. This relaunch will include fresh packaging, an expanded product range, and a few surprises that we’re keeping under wraps for now. I’m really looking forward to seeing how our community embraces the new chapter for KLHxCollection.
At KLHxCollection, it’s all about quality, luxury, and confidence. My brand represents a dedication to enhancing beauty in a way that’s both accessible and indulgent. We believe that every individual deserves to feel luxurious, no matter their lifestyle, and we’re here to provide that experience.”
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the qualities of trust in yourself, confidence, and impeccability with your word are incredibly powerful in any journey. Here’s how they shaped my journey and how they can help others:
Trust Yourself: Believing in your own judgment and instincts is fundamental. Self-trust fuels perseverance and helps you make decisions even when the path forward isn’t clear. Trusting yourself means knowing that, even in moments of doubt, you are capable of figuring things out.
Advice: Start small by setting achievable goals and allowing yourself to succeed and learn from mistakes. The more you practice trusting yourself in small ways, the easier it becomes to trust yourself in bigger decisions.
Be Confident: Confidence doesn’t mean knowing everything; it means having the belief that you can learn, adapt, and tackle challenges head-on. Confidence will often push you to take that next step, even when imposter syndrome whispers that you’re not ready.
Advice: Start by acknowledging your achievements, no matter how small they may seem. Reinforce positive self-talk and remind yourself of past successes when new challenges arise. Confidence grows through action—don’t wait for it to show up, take steps and build it.
Be Impeccable with Your Word: This is all about honesty, integrity, and following through on promises. Being impeccable with your word helps you build trust with others and stay grounded in your own values. It’s about saying what you mean and doing what you say, both internally and externally.
Advice: Practice clear and mindful communication. Hold yourself accountable for what you say and strive to be authentic. If you make a mistake, own it. When people see you as someone who is reliable, both your relationships and opportunities will naturally strengthen.
For anyone early in their journey, these qualities can be developed by embracing consistent practice, staying patient with yourself, and surrounding yourself with people who support your growth. Success often comes from these core traits, which make the journey more purposeful and fulfilling.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Both *The 48 Laws of Power* by Robert Greene and *The Four Agreements* by Don Miguel Ruiz are incredibly impactful books. Here are a few of the key takeaways from each that could play a big role in anyone’s personal and professional development:
*The 48 Laws of Power* – Robert Greene
1. **Law 1: Never Outshine the Master** – This one is all about understanding power dynamics. By recognizing that authority figures often feel insecure, it’s important to navigate relationships carefully, allowing others to shine while subtly positioning yourself for success.
**Impactful Wisdom**: Power dynamics are everywhere, and knowing when to step back and let others take the spotlight can help build trust and create opportunities for your own rise. It’s not always about being the loudest in the room; sometimes it’s about knowing when to be quiet and observe.
2. **Law 3: Conceal Your Intentions** – Greene emphasizes the importance of not revealing your full plans or strategy. The element of surprise, when used wisely, can be a powerful tool.
**Impactful Wisdom**: The more unpredictable and mysterious your actions are, the harder it becomes for others to thwart your progress. Sometimes it’s essential to keep your cards close to your chest, especially in competitive environments.
3. **Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally** – While this might sound extreme, it’s about eliminating threats decisively rather than leaving things to chance. In any competitive scenario, allowing potential threats to linger can come back to haunt you.
**Impactful Wisdom**: When going after a goal or dealing with opposition, the idea is to make sure there’s no chance for it to come back and disrupt your progress. Being thorough and committed ensures long-term success.

*The Four Agreements* – Don Miguel Ruiz
1. **Be Impeccable with Your Word** – This ties into the idea of integrity and honesty that we touched on earlier. Your words have power, and speaking with clarity, truth, and purpose is a reflection of your character.
**Impactful Wisdom**: Your words create your reality. Speak with intention, and be mindful of the energy you put into your communication. Words can build or break, so use them to uplift and align with your truth.
2. **Don’t Take Anything Personally** – Ruiz suggests that what others say or do is a reflection of them, not you. When you stop taking things personally, you free yourself from unnecessary pain and avoid reacting out of ego.
**Impactful Wisdom**: The less you internalize others’ opinions or criticisms, the more freedom and peace you have. You start to realize that people’s actions stem from their own beliefs and experiences, not a personal attack on you.
3. **Always Do Your Best** – This one encourages the pursuit of excellence in every action, but it also acknowledges that “your best” will vary depending on your circumstances and energy levels. It’s about consistency, not perfection.
**Impactful Wisdom**: Striving to do your best—without overexerting yourself—is a way to honor your own journey while maintaining balance. Accepting that your best looks different each day allows you to avoid burnout and self-judgment.

Both books complement each other well: *The 48 Laws of Power* teaches you about navigating the world of influence, strategy, and relationships, while *The Four Agreements* offers a grounded approach to self-awareness and emotional freedom. Combining the two gives you both the inner wisdom to trust yourself and the external savvy to engage the world effectively.
