Meet Sharon Johnson

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sharon Johnson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sharon below.

Sharon, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
This is surreal March 3rd 23 I turned 67 years old aging gracefully
On March 11th 23 I was working and I fell
broke two bones in my arm and I lost my quality of life long story short workmen comp. gave me no choice but to go back to work but this time light duty
Now I’m 67years old a high school drop out recovering addict no skills in this profession and black but I went to the goodwill purchase a few outfits pulled up in my charger and my whole army of God walked in the door with my humble spirit and my big smile and said good morning. The first couple of days I was a little uncomfortable but then my determination and willingness to succeed in my assignment made a difference I have not only made myself available in the company I have added clerical skills to my resume.
Plus everyone has treated me with respect and love.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My Faith, Strength and Confidence. The loss of my freedom and family members
I had to grow up and be accountable
for my actions and bad choices in life
Determine not to let my past define my future take responsibility
Look in the mirror
Surrender
Forgive yourself
Love yourself
Weigh the positives and negatives
Make a to do list
Start a hobby
Get in a faith base organization

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
I come from women that raised me theyhad strong and powerful wisdom they were Nubian queens they had a strong constitutions
With that being said I consider myself as a Victorious Woman of Faith and not a victim of circumstance without this strength to survive and not look back at my past but focus on my future and my accomplishments in life.
I’m not a EF number any longer
I’m a registered voter for the first time in my life 67 years old
