We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sharon Polsky. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sharon below.
Sharon, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Finding purpose has always been a challenge for me, but I have looked into my personal experiences to create a framework for my career and future success. My mom struggled with her weight throughout her life, trying every Readers Digest diet ever published. Even on her deathbed, she was burdened with her weight. This inspired me to deeply explore and find solutions for women who face similar struggles. I have built my entire career around helping women who struggle with their weight. Whether it’s PCOS, Hashimoto’s, Type 2 Diabetes, or simply enduring menopause, I aim to be a valuable resource for finding real solutions to weight loss challenges.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a weight loss coach who, over the last three years, has transitioned into coaching patients for functional medicine and weight loss doctors. This provides me with the rare opportunity to use weight loss modalities like GLP-1’s to help clients overcome their eating challenges. As we all know, lifestyle intervention, in addition to medication, is the cornerstone not only of losing weight but also of keeping it off. GLP-1’s are just a tiny part of the puzzle. I am honored to coach my clients on the other pieces of the puzzle to ensure that they lose weight, gain quality lean muscle, and improve their overall health.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
It’s crucial to understand that education forms the foundation of success, while experiences are the layers that complement that foundation. Often, the young people I mentor express a desire to focus on learning one specific thing. What they fail to realize is that the educational foundation we acquire enables us to fully comprehend that one thing. On the other hand, some young people I mentor emphasize their level of education but struggle to apply their theoretical knowledge due to a lack of real-world experience. Therefore, a combination of education and experience are vital components of success, complemented by the third factor: work ethic. It takes Grit and Grace, which are the cornerstones of my work ethic, to ultimately determine one’s level of success.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
I strongly believe that continuing education is key to being able to adapt in your career and achieve greater success. Like everyone else, the 15 months of Covid and government restrictions have taught us that we need to be able to adapt to sustain our success when we can’t control all the variables. For me, my ability to adapt comes from two things: my willingness to keep learning new things and my fearlessness in making decisions.
Over the past year, my biggest areas of growth have come from gaining a comprehensive understanding of GLP-1’s and their potential to negatively impact people’s lives if not handled properly, as well as their ability to save lives when managed appropriately. I have actively integrated this newfound knowledge into my daily work with my clients. I have completed three medical certification courses, which were challenging but extremely rewarding.
