Meet Sharon Reza

We were lucky to catch up with Sharon Reza recently and have shared our conversation below.

Sharon, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever head any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?

I look to other forms of art for inspiration. Music and films are always my go to’s.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an editorial photographer with a focus on fashion and beauty. I have a production company called Rivas x Reza Prod and we create visual content for brands. RxR are also filmmakers. We are in pre production for our next film making it the third following Scraps, and Where The Fuck Are Your Teeth both available on Vimeo and Youtube.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The skills that were most beneficial to me when I was starting out was understanding the consumer, if working with a brand, the first thing I want to understand is the product and what the consumer of that product wants to feel when they purchase, use, or consume the product. Secondly, was then forgetting about the product and focusing on the feeling of that brand’s story and world. Who lives in that brand’s universe? Then it was telling a story that makes a true connection with the audience.

My advice for those early in their journey is, finding out what kind of artist you are, what stories you want to tell, and finally having the skill set to execute. Don’t get intimidated by being technically proficient with gear. You can learn that any time but learning to be a true artist and story teller is a much more challenging feat that once mastered, doesn’t rely on ‘good lights’ or ‘good lenses’ or good cameras. The story will convey audiences by itself and that is how you will shine and be proud of your work.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my family did for me was to let me be who I am. While they had in their minds, higher aspirations for me such as a career in law, finance, or medicine… they never fail to express how proud of me they are. I always joke that “I’m going to throw in the towel and get a normal job” and their crushed expressions always make me laugh because they never want to me see me quit or lose. Even when I am facing defeat, loss, or overwhelming praise, they are there to remind me that I must keep going and they support my endeavors.
