We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shashanka Emmadi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shashanka, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My journey from IT Engineer to Photographer began when I realized capturing authentic emotions gave me joy that technical success couldn’t match. Photography became my purpose by aligning my creativity and passion, allowing me to tell powerful visual stories. Founding KakaS LLC (DBA KakaS Photography) was my commitment to turning this passion into meaningful work.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Shashanka Emmadi is an event photographer from India who believes in breaking stereotypes and embracing a tenacious spirit. After earning her B.Tech and gaining experience in the corporate world, she discovered her true calling in photography. Passionate about capturing emotions and spreading joy through her lens, she pursued her dream wholeheartedly. Her work has been exhibited across various states in India, reflecting her artistic vision and dedication. A true multitasker, lifelong learner, and lover of life, Shashanka now resides in Virginia, USA, with her husband, Kartheek Kalluri—a proud hedonist! Her motto: “Don’t procrastinate—pursue your passion, live in the moment, and cherish this one precious life!”

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Resilience – Transitioning careers and building a brand requires perseverance. I faced skepticism and challenges, but staying committed to my passion kept me going.
Advice: Develop a growth mindset, embrace failures as learning opportunities, and stay determined in the face of setbacks.
2. Creativity – Photography is about storytelling and capturing emotions. Constantly pushing my creative boundaries helped me stand out.
Advice: Experiment with different styles, study great photographers, and find inspiration everywhere—from nature to everyday moments.
3. Adaptability – The industry evolves rapidly, from technology to client expectations. Staying updated and open to change helped me stay relevant.
Advice: Keep learning, upgrade your skills with new tools and trends, and be flexible in your approach to work.
For those early in their journey, believe in your passion, invest in your craft, and take action without fear of failure.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Throughout my journey, many people have played a crucial role in helping me overcome challenges and develop the essential skills needed for success.
My husband, Kartheek Kalluri, has been my biggest supporter—his keen eye for photography and deep understanding of camera technicals have been invaluable. From guiding me through complex settings to offering constructive feedback, he has helped me refine my craft and grow as a photographer.
Beyond him, fellow photographers, mentors, and even clients have contributed to my learning. Engaging with photography communities, attending workshops, and receiving feedback from experienced professionals have sharpened my skills. Additionally, the support of friends and family has kept me motivated, reminding me to stay persistent and follow my passion.
Success is never a solo journey—it’s built on the guidance, encouragement, and inspiration from the people around you.
