Shasta, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
By having courage and being brave. To live every day with a great amount of love and energy. To find what’s good, what’s humorous, what touches me deeply, and brings out my desire to live in truth.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Lately, I’m really enjoying doing what I call flower dream portraits. It’s a series of dream-like images involving multiple-exposure with flowers and nature and the subject. Sometimes I use long-exposure, or filtering the shot through certain objects to increase the dreamlike quality. I prefer to do the portraits in-camera, rather than in post.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. My love of beauty. I am always looking for it. 2. Beginner’s mind.
3. Persisting in a process as it unfolds. Practicing an idea over and over until you find what you love about it.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed in our current world.
My strategies involve “chop wood and carry water” because the mundane, like cleaning the house, alleviates stress. I also get quiet in nature as much as possible, and have a meditation routine and spiritual life. I also feel going on drives out in nature help me process life. And there’s nothing like a good bath, an infrared heating pad, the card games in the jacquie lawson advent calendar, and pot of tea.
