Meet Shatawn Reid

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shatawn Reid. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Shatawn, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from my faith in God. I know that He has plans for me to do great things in this life that will show forth His goodness and I posture myself to be used by Him. There are times when it may appear that things aren’t going the way that I would like it to go, but I keep in the forefront of my mind that it is much bigger than me. I know that quitting isn’t an option nor is it a solution. I know that my steps are ordered by my Heavenly Father so no matter what I see with my natural eyes, there is a working in the background.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I have been blessed to have several gifts that I believe in using to be a help, not just to myself, but a help to others. I am currently the owner of two businesses, InHERitance, LLC and Purposefully Write Publishing, LLC. InHERitance, LLC is a company designed to help women and girls understand their inHERited favor and purpose in this world. The company was started on March 1st, 2022 and it was birthed from a women’s planner that I created. The message that I placed on the planner was, “Success is her Inheritance.” While creating the planner, the word, ‘HER’ stood out to me in the word ‘inheritance.’ God prompted in my spirit to create the company and the rest is history.

Purposefully Write Publishing, LLC started on December 8th, 2021 amid my decision to publish my first poetry book called, “Pen..Poetry..Purpose,” which was released on February 22nd, 2022. While researching information on how to maximize getting full royalties from book sales, it was suggested to create your own publishing company. Once I published my book, I realized that I could help others with the publishing of their book so that they could get their full royalties as well. So my company helps independent authors publish their manuscripts and the service includes proofreading, cover creation, marketing and advertising, etc.

The most exciting part about what I do as an Entrepreneur is helping people, I have a heart for helping others and it brings me joy seeing others happy. One motto that I tend to live by is that “I want to be a solution to a problem.” As a Christian woman, I understand what it means to serve others and I hold that part in high regard. Whether it’s using one of my businesses or doing a Spoken Word poem that touches the soul of those who have an ear to hear, I love being able to help others. It is never about recognition, although recognition is great, but it is about knowing that I am fulfilling my calling on this earth that my Heavenly Father has set out for me to do.

Plans in the future??? Well, the goal is to expand InHERitance to another level with scholarship opportunities, women’s events, etc. At this moment, I am in the process of streamlining Purposefully Write so that the company can provide the maximum help to those who are looking to publish their work. Being the creative that I am, I am looking to start another company called, SoulReach Studios and Entertainment. This company will tap into the stage plays, music, film, etc. It will, not only be my work, but work done by other individuals that need the support to get started. A branch of the company will be called, PurposeShaped Imagery, which will focus on photography and videography for individuals and companies who are looking for content for their social media platforms.

In addition, I am in the works of writing a new book that I’m keeping under wraps until everything is finalized with the manuscript. I am elated with what God has placed on my heart to do and I am looking forward to the impact that it will have on the world.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I would have to say that one quality that I have, which some would not consider a quality, that I feel is most impactful in my life is having a heart posture of learning. I never believe that I know everything and I am a believer that a person should always be in a position to learn. The moment that you believe that you know it all, you miss out on bigger and better things in life. Another quality that I have that I believe has been impactful in my journey is the willingness to help others. I get much joy in helping others and seeing others smile. Interesting fact about me, I dealt with depression and suicidal thoughts in my 20s. The one thing that helped me feel happiness and joy during that time was helping other people. Even if it was for a moment, seeing someone else smile made me forget about what I was feeling and what I was going through. The area of knowledge that has been impactful in my life is my knowledge of God. My Christian faith is the biggest part of my journey and the ONLY reason that I am still here and thriving. If it wasn’t for the LORD on my side, I wouldn’t be the person that I am today and the woman that I am yet still becoming.

The advice that I would give anyone who is going through their journey is always to be open to learning as well as to constructive criticism. Being in a teachable mindset will ensure that you can grow to different levels. Never believe that you know it all because, the moment you do, is the moment that life will surpass you. I would also say that, if don’t already, get to know Jesus. I wouldn’t be where I am today or even be doing this interview if it wasn’t for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Getting to know will in turn help you get to know yourself fully.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

The number one challenge that I am facing right now is over-comfortability. What do I mean by that? There are times when you set a goal and accomplish it, you get lazy so to speak. It’s as if you get in this mindset that you have arrived when you actually have more to do and levels to reach. You get so comfortable with the goal that you have accomplished, you get hesitant to move forward. I can say that I am experiencing that in a way. I have been blessed with a wonderful tribe of people around me that will not allow me to stay stagnant. So I am pushed by those around me to keep going as well as, most importantly, the Holy Spirit to keep going because there is more to do.
