We recently connected with Shaun Savage and have shared our conversation below.
Shaun, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I think that my resilience is shaped by a combination of personal attributes, my experiences in life and having clear values.
On the personal side, I try to maintain a growth oriented mindset. I try to learn and improve continuously. While many people see the negative side of the inevitable challenges that occur while growing a business, I see the challenges as opportunities. I’ve always had enough confidence in my own abilities and always believed I would find a way to be successful. I’m naturally optimistic and I find most roadblocks or setbacks are temporary and can be overcome. This gives me the discipline to persevere through tough times.
As far as life experiences, I think that having a strong support system via my family, friends and the startup community provides the mental stability, encouragement and the motivation that is needed is needed in order to adapt when facing adversity. I also operate with a chip on my shoulder mentality and try to use all of my past professional and personal disappointments as motivation to succeed. Being able to handle rejection and continue on with your mission builds a lot of resilience.
Ever since I was young, I wanted to build a valuable and ethical business. I also have an inclination to want to help people when I can. I want to invent something cool that many people find useful. GoShare has proven to be exactly that. Being able to run a business built on the shared values that our team all have in common is an honor and really helps get through the hard times.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
For the last 10 years my professional focus has been building GoShare from scratch. GoShare is a supply chain technology platform connecting businesses and individuals with a network of delivery professionals for on-demand delivery and moving services. Our mission is to organize the trucks of the world to make them more accessible and useful.
GoShare stands out by combining cutting-edge technology with a human touch. Our platform leverages AI-based optimization and automated dispatching systems to efficiently organize drivers, manage delivery routes, and drive efficiency. This ensures that our customers receive reliable and timely deliveries, while our delivery professionals benefit from flexible, high-paying work opportunities.
I’m thrilled to share that GoShare was recently named one of the top 100 small businesses in America by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This recognition reflects our team’s dedication to innovation, growth, and community impact.
Additionally, GoShare was recognized as the 25th fastest-growing medium-sized company in San Diego by the San Diego Business Journal. As well as one of the fastest growing companies in America by the Deloitte Fast 500 and the Inc. 5000.
We’re continuously expanding our geographic footprint across the U.S., aiming to serve over 90% of the population. Recently, we launched our services in Albany’, NY and Chattanooga, TN , bringing our on-demand delivery and moving platform to over 100 markets in 36 states.
In terms of services, we’ve introduced the “Ship from Store” solution, allowing retailers to use their physical stores as distribution centers. This innovation enables faster delivery times and lower shipping costs, enhancing the customer experience and providing retailers with a competitive edge.
As we continue to grow, our focus remains on leveraging technology to improve delivery services and create economic opportunities for our delivery professionals. We’re excited about the future and committed to driving positive change in the logistics industry.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Sales – you have to be able to sell yourself and your company to your customers, employees, investors and more. You have to be persuasive, genuine and a good listener.
Marketing – being able to spread the word about your company is critical for success. Marketing comes in many forms. Creativity is important in marketing.
Persistence – This may be the most important quality. Starting a business and making sure it continues to grow is very hard. You will want to quit and you will need to make difficult decisions that will cause discomfort. You have to believe in yourself and keep going.
These skills can be developed through reading, practicing and learning from your wins and losses.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
