Meet Shawn Bigby

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shawn Bigby. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shawn below.

Shawn, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Self esteem and confidence was instilled into me at a very young age. As a child my parents taught me to believe in myself and they celebrated achievements and milestones. As I think about it my mom was always at award ceremonies or church choir anniversaries etc being my biggest supporter. My dad worked a lot but he would let me know he was proud! These foundational blocks helped me to believe in myself!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the creative arts director at Right Direction Church Intl. That’s a fancy way to say minister of music honestly lol! I am also a songwriter, recording artist and author. I think what’s the most special thing about what I do is the fact that I get to do what I am sure God put me on earth to do. I tell people often if you can get paid for doing what you were purposed for then you are doing well!!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back the 3 qualities, skills or areas of knowledge that have been most impactful on my journey have been; being nice to everyone, being faithful in my local church, and remembering the goal is always bigger than the role. Those that early in your journey if you start out making these priority for your life and connecting them to your why you will establish some great disciplines.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
I think it’s very wise to utilize your strong areas and by the same token be familiar with your weak areas and do what you can to strengthen them. I believe that the more you strengthen your weak areas the more well rounded you can be. It’s always a plus if you remain a student. Whether it’s of your craft, your market, or yourself you have never gotten to the place where you have learned it all.
