Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shawn Richardz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Shawn, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter Syndrome is something that I have to constantly work to overcome, I do this by trusting 100% in myself and knowing that my journey and my experiences are something I should be proud of. I also feel that the thoughts of Imposter Syndrome always appears at the oddest times, whether its fleeting moments or a combo of pre performance anxiety jitters. Imposter Syndrome is a constant mindset you work on overcoming, I haven’t mastered this erasure as of yet.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As a Voice and Screen Actor and sometimes Host, my resume is lengthy and spans across genres. My voiceover career has been a major focal point most recently. I thankfully have over ten years of experience in these specific voice categories; Commercials, Dubbing, Narration, Documentaries, Corporate Educational Videos, Podcasts, Live Radio, Audio Drama, and Announcer. A lot of times my voice is described as having that naturally confident mature soothing voice that can easily shift into other categories. Serious calming voice as well as, ” Dramatic with a smile lady voice” and a sprinkle of “Sweet Spot” for the relaxed conversational voice, all descriptions of my vocal hue. I’m mostly called upon for story telling, friendly sounding, educational and instructional as well as documentary narration that requires a more dramatic or grounded voice. Most recently True Crime documentary narration dubbing has been a majority of my contracts. Being able to have an expansive career is something I’m so proud and grateful for.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My journey has required me to be very prepared for all aspects in the entertainment industry. The three skills that immediately come to mind are: Acting Skills, Consistency, and Adaptability. My advice for anyone working in any field is to never stop training and continue challenging yourself by sharpening your skills and your increase your hobbies.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
One of the most impactful things my parents did was exposing me to all kinds of music, theatre, television and film.
