Meet Shawna Rowena Morgan

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shawna Rowena Morgan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Shawna Rowena, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

From a young age, I learned that my worth was rooted in the love and support of my family, friends, and my unshakeable connection with God. Yet, even with this strong foundation, there were seasons in life when my self-esteem wavered.

One of the most transformative moments came when I was navigating pregnancy at 32. I entered this phase full of excitement, ready to embrace a new chapter. But after giving birth to my beautiful baby boy, I found myself grappling with a body that no longer looked like what I was used to. Even though I had shed the pregnancy weight, I felt like an alien in my own skin—my confidence took a nosedive. It was in that raw, challenging moment that I realized I had not travelled this way before—I was in uncharted waters.

I can’t honestly say I saw this as a challenge at the time, but I was resolved to find a way to show up every day. That resolution looked like redefining self-love, self-esteem, and confidence. Affirmations and declarations rooted in scripture became my daily reminders that my worth wasn’t determined by a body shape or a past image but by the strength and resilience I mined from the word of God. My family and friends played a crucial role too; their loving support helped counter the negative narratives I clung to. Their perspective taught me that sometimes, what we need most is to see ourselves through the eyes of those who truly care.

This shift wasn’t instantaneous—it’s a daily battle of fostering a positive mindset, being intentional with self-care, and embracing the ever-evolving image of who I am. The day, when acceptance and celebration converged, marked the turning point in my own journey. I learned that image is fluid, but love is steadfast.

Today, this experience isn’t just a personal victory—it’s the essence of my work as a style consultant. I help creative entrepreneurs and personal brands embrace their evolving selves, commanding their spaces with authentic confidence.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m Shawna Rowena Morgan., a style consultant based in Barbados, and I help creative entrepreneurs and personal brands command their spaces with a confident, signature style. I work with clients one-on-one and in workshops to unlock a style that truly represents who they are and what they aspire to be.

What excites me most about my work is the transformational impact. I don’t just offer advice on wardrobe choices—I help people harness the power of resonance, aligning their image with the authentic essence of who they are and the dream of where they’re going. At the heart of my brand is the belief that style is a powerful tool for self-expression and impact.

I invite you to join me on this journey toward discovering and celebrating your unique style—one that speaks to your inner strength, creativity, and vision.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Reflecting on my journey, three qualities have profoundly shaped who I am: a deep sense of self-awareness, a heart full of gratitude, and an enduring commitment to compassion.

For those just beginning their sojourn, I encourage you to take the time to truly know the beautiful spirit you are. It’s from this deep understanding that your unique blend of knowledge, skills, and qualities flows naturally into the world.

As creatives, our best work comes from the heart. The practice of gratitude has helped me guard against life’s challenges, keeping me aligned with the person I was designed to be rather than letting difficulties morph me into someone else entirely. At the same time, compassion can sometimes feel like a double-edged sword. While extending compassion makes the world a better place, it can also leave us open and vulnerable. I’ve learned that you can either let life define you or be determined to define your life—but trying to do both is an impossible balancing act.

This blend of self-awareness, gratitude, and compassion continues to guide my creative journey, reminding me that growth often comes from embracing both our strengths and our vulnerabilities.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I remind myself that navigating life’s journey—especially as a creative entrepreneur—comes with moments of uncertainty. It’s an ongoing challenge that I continue to navigate.

Living on an island can sometimes feel like being positioned at the back of the class, where pressing forward seems insurmountable. But I draw wisdom from the pages of the Bible, particularly the story of the woman who battled a debilitating condition for 12 years. Despite the overwhelming crowd, she pushed through to her healing. Her story encourages me to do the same—to keep moving forward even when the odds feel stacked against me.

One lesson I’ve learned is not to shrink back. There will be moments when I want to, but I can choose not to give in to the impulse. A friend recently shared a simple yet powerful encouragement with me: Get dressed and show up. That advice continues to push me forward.

I’ve also come to believe that even if a goal feels completely out of reach, even if I’m unsure whether I have what it takes, the key is faith. Sometimes, the act of pressing forward is what makes the impossible possible.
