We recently connected with Shayla and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shayla, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My mother. She built a jewelry business from our kitchen table and worked hard in her small business. I’ve watched her bounce back from so much and I’m proud of her!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a wine entertainer! Founder & Content Creator for the @BlackGirlsWine lifestyle brand. I was excited about birthing this platform to create a space where Black women could explore and discover their next favorite wine. What’s special about it is that most people make wine feel elite— I’m the opposite. I want everyday women on a quest for living their most fabulous life to feel like learning and loving wine is attainable for them!
This fall I’m releasing my show A Little Sip Of Everything on YouTube and I can’t wait for more people to fall in love with wine and the journey to building our dream lives together.
Also, there are more retreats and opportunities to sip with me coming soon!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I think about what’s made the most impact in my journey of building platforms and communities I know that being confident in who I am, having the ability to build connections/relationships, and good old fashion discipline have made all the difference. My best advice for those who are early in their journey, is to pursue with great passion that vision in your head, even when it does not look like what already exist.
When people witnessed my early years in the wine industry — some had encouragement and some head criticism, but at the end of the day, everyone was just kind of like well what is she going to do next? I think, ignoring the voices and pursuing what I wanted to build is what has led me here. The journey to building a platform with thousands of followers and building $1 million dollar membership while connecting with women around the world are all things that happen because I was confident, ignored criticism, and believed in the vision that was inside of me. That’s what you have to do if you wanna experience success.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I would spend the next decade pouring into myself and into my family. I would want my son to witness what it looks like to give life your all. I would pursue with great intention every vision, idea, and passion. I would want him to witness impossible tenacity and grit so that when I’m not here he would have a blueprint for what it means to live a fulfilling life. And with no idea what my next decade holds, that’s exactly the kind of intention I’m moving with right now.
