We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shea Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shea , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
What helped me overcome imposter syndrome is the realization that everyone experiences it! The only difference is, successful people don’t let those imposter thoughts stop them from moving forward. When those thoughts come up for me now, I acknowledge them and use them as a reminder that I’m growing and about to level up!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
For almost ten years now, I’ve been passionately leading the charge for change in the beauty industry. From local initiatives to influencing policies at the state and federal levels, I’ve been dedicated to making a difference. Helping women make simple yet powerful changes in their beauty routines that can significantly reduce your exposure to harmful ingredients.
I firmly believe that we all deserve better, and that’s what I strive for in every aspect of my work. Whether it’s advocating for safer regulations or guiding people through the process of finding cleaner alternatives, my goal is to empower people to make informed choices that benefit your health and well-being.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey these stand out as the most impactful:
Learning: Embracing a mindset of continuous learning has been instrumental in my growth. Being open to new information, trends, and developments has allowed me to stay informed and adaptable. Whether it’s understanding ingredients, regulations, or consumer preferences, my commitment to learning has fueled my ability to make informed decisions and drive change effectively.
Community: Being part of a community of individuals who are also committed to personal and professional growth has been pivotal for me. Surrounding myself with people who share a common drive for improvement, innovation, and impact has provided invaluable support, inspiration, and accountability.
Willingness to Try Before You’re Ready: Not everything is going to go according to plan and sometimes opportunities come before you’re ready. Don’t be afraid to go for it before you have everything dialed in perfectly. You’ll be surprised how many people are also figuring it out along the way!
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Absolutely! If you’re passionate about reshaping the beauty industry, I’d love to connect with you! Whether you’re an individual eager to make a difference or part of a group seeking valuable insights, let’s chat. I provide engaging education and resources to help simplify and demystify this often overwhelming topic, making it not only informative but also enjoyable and empowering!
