Meet Sheena Bilonn

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sheena Bilonn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sheena below.

Hi Sheena, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

It’s a weird to assume this but I always think that I am the only one in an event room but at the same time it helps me prepare myself. I usually start off with creating my outdo look because it helps jump start my confidence. I do a deeper research of the event so that I can be intentional of how I receive the information and prepare myself to meet at least 2-3 people and exchange information with 2-3 people.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a vibrant, talented woman in her early 40’s living out every answered prayer of my mother, my dreams and aspirations. Once I learned of my learning disability called dyslexia, my understanding about everything was different but beautiful at the same time. Keeping my faith in God first, embracing my friendships and experiences to my heart has made my life wonderful I am so blessed to have two thriving careers, one as a professional model being signed to two agencies and being a license master social worker out of Connecticut.

Even though I am single without my own family, I make it up with being a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated Chi Eta Zeta Chapter, member of Spottswood AME Zion Church and owner my own business called Bilonn’s Vision. Where I offer real time content for events.

Next steps in my world is to continue to elevate. I still have many more goals to check off like, landing a major campaign, walking in a high fashion show, invites to brand trips., panel guest invites and serving my community with love and kindness.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

First, never make a decision quickly, Take at least 3-4 days to do your research, pray on it and trust your feelings on the matter. When you rush through things, you miss the important details.

Second, give every opportunity your all because it might be your last time doing it that exact thing. Take these opportunities serious so that you can make the best out of them. There is always someone else waiting to get your spot. Be proud of where you are, never slack and do it like it’s your last chance to prove that you are the perfect person for the job.

Lastly, protect your peace at all times. This can be your heart, the company you keep or just adding a new plant to your personal space. There will never be another YOU and the faster your learn that YOU are amazing, great, talented and THAT GIRL. The better you will be in everything that you go after.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

My parents love and support for EVERY little thing that I did was a major flex for me. I didn’t have plans for college until my senior year of high school and they were all in with me. When I was in college they supported my ever changing major and I currently have three degrees and working on my therapy license.

But the support of my parents began when I was a little girl who feel in love with music, dance, singing, driving, traveling, having an ant farm, and a painter. They were the ones that poured into me, they gave me the courage to do it all.
