Meet Sheena Works

We were lucky to catch up with Sheena Works recently and have shared our conversation below.

Sheena , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
For me, my resilience has come from the life I had lived as a child. I saw m) mom struggle to provide for us. I saw and experienced her tiredness from managing three different jobs at a time to provide a decent upbringing for myself and my two siblings. I decided from a young age that no matter what, I wouldn’t struggle like this as an adult. I decided I would do more for myself and provide more for any children I had. My mother was (and still is) an amazing woman with a heart of gold who works hard everyday. Seeing her never give up, even when it was really hard has helped me to do the same.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I always knew I was destined to have some impact on the world around me whether big or small. I have spent most of my life chasing and achieving my own dreams. Dreams I set out from a young age, from being the only person in my immediate family to graduate college (I have a masters degree), to running my own business (I have 3 now), to trusting and believing in myself more than any sense of doubt.

I am so excited for what I am working on and towards with my business partner Kate. Together we are introducing a membership, courses, and consulting for other business owners with Gathered. Gathered is a special place for other female founders to feel seen and heard and as business owners ourselves, we are creating a space for all to feel and know they belong.

Aside from Gathered, I also coach small business owners on how to scale with social media and how to bring in additional revenue through course creation.

My goal is to have a positive impact on 1,000,000 people through these avenues, and my love for sharing t a el, family, and clothing hacks and deals through my personal social media.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most impactful things I have acquired or I should say discovered along my journey have been:

1. Confidence and self-awareness- these go hand in hand for me and have changed my entire life, many times over. Having the confidence to try and the self-awareness to learn have been huge for me.

2. Marketing – this is the biggest set of skills that have helped me grow my own business and help others do the same.

3. Understanding how to connect with others based on what they want is a skill and set of knowledge that is absolutely gamechanging. It doesn’t matter what I want, if you work with me – I need to understand and deliver on what you want.

My advice to anyone starting or even stuck is to not give up. You can improve on each of these by continuously looking for learning opportunities, being open to feedback, and above all else – listening.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Overwhelm is inevitable. We all feel it at some point, and how we handle it will make or break us. For me when I feel overwhelmed it is usually because I am neglecting self-care. So, to realign I go to the gym or a workout class of some sorts. I have even just gone on a walk, physical movement for me is the truest and simplest form of self-care. My advice, take it easy – move any amount of time. Remove yourself from the situation that is overwhelming and go for walk if you can’t make it to a class or workout. At the very least, stand outside and just listen to the world around you for a minute or two.
