Meet Sheila Ayala

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sheila Ayala a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheila, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
From the young age of 10, I found myself grappling with the insecurities surrounding my body hair. Being actively involved in various sports, my legs and underarms were always on display, intensifying my self-consciousness. Determined to take control, I took the leap and invested in my first home wax kit at 16, igniting a flame of passion that still burns brightly today. Recognizing that my struggles were shared by many, I embarked on a journey to beauty school to become an esthetician. In 2016, I proudly earned my license, marking the beginning of a challenging yet fulfilling path. Starting out at a franchise, I eventually transitioned to renting a room in a studio before finally realizing my dream of owning my own space two years ago. Now, as I rent out rooms to others, I reflect on how waxing has evolved beyond a mere service; it’s a profound bond I cultivate with my clients and empower others to feel confident in their skin.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
For me, the concept of hair removal has intrigued me since my youth, and this passion led to the creation of Sheila Skincare. What truly excites me is the opportunity to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds on a daily basis. My priority is ensuring that each client feels at ease and self-assured throughout every service.

Over the past five years, Sheila Skincare has flourished, thanks to the unwavering support of my clientele. I’ve had the privilege to collaborate with numerous reputable brands during this time. I’m delighted to share that I am currently in the process of developing Sheila Skincare branded products, with plans for a launch later this year. This endeavor marks an exciting chapter in my professional journey, and I am eager to see where it takes us.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being able to interact with other people to build customer service and trust is my skill. My work ethic drives me to persevere even when faced with challenges. Utilizing social media to connect and establish a brand is crucial. I believe in continuously refining techniques and never ceasing to improve and learn new skills. It’s about always pushing forward and never stopping the journey of growth. Practice makes perfect!

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Coming from humble beginnings, seeing my parents constantly working instilled a strong work ethic in me. This upbringing has shaped the person I am today and fueled my determination to start my own business. I’ve never given up and always believed in myself.
