We recently connected with Sheka Petit and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheka, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I got it from two ways actually. The first one comes from my faith in God. Trusting him through the dark days was my character development. And that’s where the second one comes in play. My self-confidence watered my resilience until it sprouted and became unshakable or should I say unbreakable. I’m the girl that always has to clap for herself no matter the challenges and setbacks I face. Learning to motivate myself and pray on the days I could just give up made me resilient. Knowing that everything I go through is for the future me to be successful and walk bravely in my purpose. Having resilience is the spark that keeps the fire burning in me to keep taking action towards my goals.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As of right now I’m focused on launching my fashion brand (SHE GRAND) originally it all started off as a online boutique. From 2018-2022 I was reselling clothes from wholesalers to my customers. The more I bought and sold. The more I learned about the different kinds of fabrics and designs then with that I fell in love with fashion but still felt like something was missing. I wanted to stand out! I wanted to sell my own designs to my customers. Ding! The idea light bulb went off and I told myself “girl you can start your own brand” And it started from there.
This journey has not been easy. I’ve been doing the ground work and putting in overtime for my fashion brand for a while now. Sketching out designs, creating the logo, coming up with a unique concept of the brand. Giving it its own identity.
Finally this fall of 2024 with the grace of God I will be launching my very own fashion brand for the women. Bringing my own taste and style to the fashion streetwear world.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Hmmm… Its hard to really pinpoint three different qualities and skills during this tough journey because I acquired so much but if I had to choose they will be creativity, discipline and ethics.
My advice is to always prioritize yourself and your goals once you learn how to do that everything else becomes easy. With creativity you have to be open; open up to new experiences, new ideas don’t limit yourself with nothing. Discipline grows with self love. Water yourself but be patient also after all we are humans not robots so don’t expect to gain that overnight. Last but not least ethics be genuine in all that you do and to who crosses your path so you’ll be able to lead and make the right decisions with a pure heart and strong mind.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My son has helps me the most in being the best me on this road to success. Whether its cheering me on or reminding me its okay when the going gets tough. He got this song that he randomly sings around the house and that brightens up my mood it goes like “Lord I thank you for sunshine, thank you for rain, thank you for joy, thank you for pain it’s a beautiful day-ay-ay-ay” That stays on repeat in my head when I need it the most. Its amazes me sometimes how much I can learn from from my little one. My super star mommy loves you Cary and I thank you for always being you!!
