Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shekierra Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Shekierra , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I grew up watching my father rise before the sun, his hands rough from years of hard work, his determination unwavering. Every late night and early morning was a lesson—hard work wasn’t just a necessity, it was a way of life. He never complained, never wavered, and through him, I learned that perseverance wasn’t just about making ends meet; it was about building something better. Now, with that same fire in my heart, I carry his work ethic forward, knowing that success isn’t just given—it’s earned, one determined step at a time.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m the owner of The Lace Bar Co., a hair business dedicated to helping every woman enhance the beauty that God has already given her. I have always been passionate about everything hair-related, and my goal is to provide high-quality extensions that not only look amazing but also give my customers the confidence they deserve.
Recently, I relaunched my Raw Cambodian Collection, which has been a labor of love. This collection is all about quality—raw, unprocessed hair that blends seamlessly and lasts, giving my customers the best value for their investment. Seeing my hard work come to life and witnessing my customers’ excitement when they install their new hair is the most rewarding part of this journey.
I’m focused on growing The Lace Bar Co. into a brand that women can trust for luxury, authenticity, and beauty. There’s so much more to come, and I can’t wait to continue helping women feel like the best version of themselves!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey with The Lace Bar Co. are consistency, knowing my audience, and patience.
Consistency has been key in everything—whether it’s marketing, customer service, or product quality. Staying consistent builds trust, and trust is what keeps customers coming back. For anyone starting out, I’d say don’t just show up when things are going well—show up every single day, even when it feels like no one is watching.
Knowing my audience has helped me create a brand that truly serves my customers. I’ve learned that it’s not just about selling hair; it’s about understanding what my customers want, what styles they love, and how my products can make them feel more confident. My advice? Take time to study your audience, engage with them, and always be willing to adjust based on their needs.
Patience is something I’ve had to learn along the way. Building a successful business takes time, and results don’t happen overnight. There were moments when I felt like things weren’t moving fast enough, but I had to remind myself that every step forward, no matter how small, was still progress. For anyone just starting, be patient with yourself and your business—growth takes time, but when you stay committed, the results will come.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I know people always say, “It was all God,” but it really was all God. I didn’t have people around me who were doing what I was trying to do, so the only person I could turn to was Him. He gave me the vision for The Lace Bar Co., so I knew He would guide me through every step of the journey.
There were moments when I felt lost, unsure of my next move, or frustrated when things weren’t happening as fast as I wanted. But every time, I prayed, and somehow, the answers would come—whether it was a new strategy, an unexpected opportunity, or just the strength to keep going.
Of course, I’ve learned from experience, research, and trial and error, but at the core of it all, my faith has been my foundation. If there’s one piece of advice I’d give to anyone starting out, it’s to trust the process and lean on God. He wouldn’t give you the vision if He wasn’t going to see it through.
