Meet Shellie Enteen

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shellie Enteen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shellie below.

Hi Shellie, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

In 1999, when I got the ‘assignment’ to write the life of a late 5th century Druid Priestess, I had no information about the era or the Celts and Druids, or the setting: Wales.

I couldn’t do much research before writing because the Druids left no information. The woman who suggested this book had said the legends of Arthur were wrong and that his “Camelot’ was Caerleon, a town in Wales. I would be writing against the flow of famous authors and renditions by Cistercian Monks.

I am a muse-driven author and I was receiving inspiration and going along with it. My Muse was drawing me in, just as the words of her story draw others.

At some points after writing a scene, I felt I had to Google what was said. A scene was detailing the process of burying the dead, with specific rituals and a cremation that left only the large bones to be arranged in a certain way. I had to know if cremation was a practice at that time. When a priestess had a wolfskin on her lap or Merlin had a bearskin in his cave, I had to go to Google because I was familiar with the UK and neither of those animals exist there today. When I wrote of foods, plants, architecture, I had to check this, too. There were many more instances like this and the most challenging was her description of Arthur’s battles. They are not the way or where they have been portrayed.

The good news was every time I researched, my Muse was validated. And finally, the battles issue was resolved for me after seeing a documentary where a search for ‘The Lost Kingdom of Arthur’ revealed that flying over the famous battle sites with Ground Penetrating Radar came up with no evidence of the mass graves that would have followed a battle .

I have written a controversial piece that has an important purpose, and was a totally different retelling of a beloved Arthurian legend. After doing the research, I was able to relay both story and information with confidence and receive wonderful reactions. I have greatly enjoyed gaining insights through My Muse about the Druid teachings, and the truth about people who were part of my hidden Ancestral Heritage.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My professional life path included a BA in English Literature and Fine Arts from NYU. I spent my early career years in Advertising and Public Relations in NYC and London.

Other facets of my professional life arrived without me seeking them and well-before they were popular or accepted subjects. First came Astrology, then Bach Flower Remedies, Aromatherapy, Reiki, and Jin Shin Jyutsu. I became and Interfaith Reverend, which supports spiritual counseling. Through all of this, I was a teacher and a writer.

After self-publishing a novella Fairy Tale, I was able to finish what became the Revealing the Druid Legacy series. There are three books that cover the life of Anwen (my Muse) including her training on the Priestess Isle and her relationships with Merlin and Arthur. The series is on Amazon. Book One is The Last Priestess.

I am currently writing on Substack at shelliewrites.substack.com and posting on all the facets of my professional life along with some magical true life tales of my own and perspectives on current events. The number of Subcribers is growing and this platform allows for both free reading and levels of paid subscription. It includes a voiceover option, so people can listen to if they prefer doing so. They also offer podcast potential, which is my next hill to climb.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Though my expectations of what I would do in my life were not what happened, I was open to learning and new experiences. I have a healthy skepticism and had to see the validity of what I was presented with before I would make a commitment. When I did, the pursuit was rewarding.

Looking back, I would say that despite detours, obstacles, and expections unfulfilled, we are always on the right path. Each action taken, all the people encountered, are part of ‘the web of life’. Some people will find their path following a straight line to a specific destination. Others will have a more varied experience to reach their fulfillment. For me, continuing to learn and expand my perspectives has been, and continues to be a great gift.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

This is an interesting idea to contemplate. I could think of certain scenarios that are ideal, but I think it would be better for me to focus on continuing to grow in understanding, releasing old ‘stuff’ on every level, seeking pleasurable times with loved ones and not wasting time on discord and relationships that are draining or negative. I’d like to have another writing project to engage me in another journey, and complete it.

And I would hope to have a smile on my face and no regrets when I journey on.
