Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shem Louis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Shem, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Great question because I’m just honestly realizing where it comes from. Two people immediately come to mind: My mother and Kobe Bryant!
On a personal level, my mother is from the island of Jamaica. So for anyone who’s an immigrant, or has an immigrant background, then you are already familiar with the work ethic that inherently comes with that identity.
My mom owned 2 businesses throughout my adolescence and I would always see her up at 2am/3am working. (what was I doing up at that time myself is a different topic altogether). So the idea of working hard to manifest your dreams were already being instilled in me without any conversation taking place. I remember one time she was driving me to football training and I was throwing an entire fit, because I wanted to hang out with my friends and she says “Shem, you have to sacrifice if you want to see your dreams turn into reality.” That quote has stuck with me till this day.
On a professional level, I mean just saying the name Kobe Bryant says it all. Kobe was my favorite athlete growing up and I attended his “Kobe Academy” summer camp growing up. When he would speak at the camp, he would talk about how he would wake up at 5am to start his day, day after day… Remind you, by this point he had already won multiple championships and was regarded as the best player in the world, and STILL was working this hard. While I was looking at him wide-eyed at the time, it wasn’t until later on in my life that I understood what he meant. “No matter where you are in your career, you have to continue striving to become a better version of yourself.” To take it a step further, he would wear and have the camp counselor’s also wear a t-shirt that said “Hunt or be Hunted.”
Message received Kobe, message received.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hello everyone! My name is SHEM and I am a professional singer who is making his debut in 2026!
I have been a cover artist since 2023, but I am making my original artist debut this upcoming year.
I am an artist who makes music that helps create *moments* in people’s lives. A moment can be your first kiss, prom, college graduation, a soulmate introduction, a marriage proposal, the wedding itself, a birth of a child, a birth of a business, etc.
Any congratulatory moment in a someone’s life, I want to be one of the artist(s) that they turn too.
I want to be this artist for others because that’s how my favorite artists’ are to me! Whether it’s Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”, Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature”, Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”, Olivia Rodrigo’s “Deja Vu”, Leon Thomas’ “Mutt”, music has always been the highlighting factor of key moments of my life. I’ve felt the impact and I want to share it with others.
SHEM loves love. There’s no point of even trying to hide it. I unashamedly love to see two people fall in love, love to see people fall in love with themselves, love to see people fall in love with the pursuit of realizing their dreams.
So a lot of my music is romantic, love songs. If that’s your type of music, I’m your guy.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Introspection.
As an artist, you are the vessel from which the message comes through. The more you know yourself, the more authentic and clear your vision is. The more confident I feel in exploring who I was created to be, is directly related to how confident I feel expressing myself. I find out more and more about myself everyday.
2. Learners’ Mind.
You can never know too much. A lot of my favorite days as an artist are my training days when I’m with my vocal coach, or songwriting sessions because it allows me to test my collaboration skills. Some of the best ideas come from when I’m receptive to what others are saying.
3. Business Understanding
I think having a comprehensive understanding of financial literacy is key to being successful as an artist. I think the challenge of the 21st century artist is being artistically boundless while being fiscally responsible. Having a career is akin to owning a business, an entrepreneurial spirit is needed in both,

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Oh my goodness – I am a completely different person than I was 12 months ago, and in hindsight, that is the best thing that happened to me.
The biggest area of growth I’ve experienced is not being afraid of change. I used to think I have to be “this” so “that” can happen and whenever I tried that approach, it never worked out HAHA. When I decided to stop fighting for what I thought should/could/would happen and decided to try something that I didn’t think would work or most importantly, wasn’t “me”, I ended up accomplishing what I wanted from the beginning!
I originally thought that this approach was “compromising your vision”, but it’s not compromising it. It’s expanding it.
You’re now bringing in ideas that wasn’t readily available at the time but now appear, because you’ve expanded your mind to think beyond what was initially there. And here’s the kicker: those ideas come from one person, you. They appeared to show you a piece of yourself you didn’t even know existed.
