Meet Sheng Wan

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sheng Wan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Sheng, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I love this question, I got my work ethic from a lot of people, people I worked with, and people I followed on social media, they sometimes shared their insights on certain things. My principle is to open my eyes wide open and accept any advice or suggestions, watch and learn.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I primarily work as a First Assistant Camera on set. I still remember my first experience as a Focus Puller during a school project. At the time, I didn’t know much, but I managed to keep everything sharp and instantly fell in love with that feeling. That moment sparked my passion, and I’ve dedicated myself to honing my skills and gaining as much experience as possible.

The journey wasn’t easy at the beginning, and even now, I’m constantly learning new things from the people I work with on different sets. Staying humble and being open to listening has been key to overcoming challenges. Just follow my heart, follow my marks, and follow my guts.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

We’re all on our own unique paths, and staying committed to what we believe in makes the journey worthwhile. Having faith in yourself and never giving up is so powerful, especially in a field as challenging and rewarding as filmmaking. Every project and every day on set brings new challenges, but the drive to make it better and push forward is what makes the journey incredible. Belief and all the amazing things yet to come!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

Those overwhelming moments can feel like they’ll never end, but every challenge is a chance to grow. Facing obstacles is how we discover our strength and resilience—every setback sets us up for a stronger comeback. Filmmaking is full of hurdles, but keeping that faith in yourself turns each challenge into a stepping stone toward becoming better, both as a person and in skills.
