Meet Shenika Brown

We recently connected with Shenika Brown and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Shenika, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Ahhhh, work ethic is simply based off of your personal goals, drive, circumstances etc. The hand I was dealt in life wasn’t the easiest, so I play blind. I have two beautiful people that think that I am invincible because I choose to show up every day, and for them I do just that, SHOW THE HELL UP! You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hello! I am Shenika Brown, Neek for those who know me best. I am a master stylist and owner of Mahogany Beauty and Co. A full service salon. I’ve been blessing beautiful people by making them look and feel good for over 16 years. I am located in the heart of Atlanta, Ga. Servicing Metro Atlanta and surrounding areas. I offer a wide range of services to accommodate almost anyone! Along with a serene atmosphere and the BEST vibes! Come check me out!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. The art of persuasion. My profession is heavily saturated, therefore consumers have many options. I use the gift of gab to lure the girls, my work speaks for itself :). 2. Consistency. When consumers see that you are dedicated to what you do and you’re consistent, you’ll win their loyalty. No one wants to deal with anyone that’s here today and gone tomorrow.
3. Experience: I’ve worked for many years on my talent, sure there were bumps in the road but I never stopped practicing, I never stopped learning.

To the ones that decide to take this road, know that it has many ups and downs, one day you may see 1k and the next you’ll be praying to make $50 in a week. DONT GIVE UP! Practice your craft, be punctual, be consistent.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Everyday Magic. A book by Mattie James. I’ve always struggled with perfection. Wanting to be everything and anything to everyone, as I grow older and learn from the many mistakes I’ve made on my life path I’ve realized that I’m not everything, I’m ENOUGH. And that’s perfect for me. This book put things in perspective for the kid.
