Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sheri Booth. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sheri, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I believe my purpose found me. I was singing before I was walking. In school, my favorite time of day was art and music classes. As I got older, this love continued to grow. Music was my first love, singing is my favorite thing to do, but I really embrace all forms of creative expression, they are my healing tools.
I was a victim of child abuse, sexual abuse and domestic abuse, so I know first-hand the healing attributes of music and art. I believe God gave me music/art to use as therapy. This is how my nonprofit came into play. I founded HeARTS Found, a 501c3 nonprofit to help people suffering from trauma by using music and art as ways of self expression and healing.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
It’s extremely difficult to self promote without sounding narcissistic. That has always been a struggle for me. I have a website where I have my bio and other information about what I have been working on most of my life. The latest big deal is my studio. The Double S Studio has been a dream for about 10 years. It is finally a reality. We host music events, listening room concerts, song circles, art classes, and weekend retreats. The studio is located on my property in East Texas. You can find out much more at sheribooth.art
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Never give up, 2. Never give up, 3. Never give up
I honestly believe if you keep making choices that continue your trajectory toward your goals, you will achieve them. Perseverance is absolutely key. Do not allow the naysayers to trip you up. Keep believing in yourself in spite of them. I’ve heard a saying that the best form of revenge is simply to succeed.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Without a doubt, the Bible. I have so many stories of how God has been with me through my most difficult experiences. I was asked to expand on my book “Stirrings From Inside” which was an abstract, artistic journey through my life. The hardest thing to do was to relive all of the trauma and abuse as I was remembering and writing all the sordid details for the publisher. God got me through that grueling ordeal. It was painful, but on the other side, it was cathartic and very healing. I grew much closer to God through that time.
