Meet Sheri Fink

We recently connected with Sheri Fink and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheri, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
I’ve always been an optimist. I think I was born with it. Ever since I was a child, I thought everything was possible for me. I get intrigued about an idea and then I visualize it happening over and over again, feeling all the feelings that I’ll have when the dream comes true.

When I see someone else succeed, I get excited and think that maybe I could accomplish that, too. Even in times when I feel disappointed and like things aren’t going to happen, I hold out hope for a brighter future. I’ve discovered that there’s more than one way for a vision to come to life and to be open to my goals unfolding in unexpected ways that are even better than my wildest dreams.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an inspirational speaker, #1 best-selling author, and president of Whimsical World. Whimsical World is an empowering brand I created with my husband, award-winning author Derek Taylor Kent. Whimsical World’s mission is to inspire, delight, and educate children of all ages while planting seeds of self-esteem and high achievement. We aim to make positive change through the power of whimsy and imagination.

Our catalog of award-winning, fun-to-read children’s books have social-emotional learning themes, including anti-bullying, being brave, asking for help, adapting to change, being authentic, and being a true friend. Our books expand children’s imaginations with whimsy and wonder from the depths of the ocean to the heights of the galaxy. Whimsical World brings joy, positivity, and wonder. We create magical live experiences and merchandise with a message. Discover more at www.WhimsicalWorldBooks.com.

I love to write (sixteen books so far!) and travel the world inspiring audiences of all ages to believe in themselves, dream bigger dreams, and take action to live their best lives.

My first children’s book, The Little Rose, is a powerful empowering story about a rose who grows up in a weed bed and because she is different, believes she’s a weed. She discovers that she’s a beautiful rose no matter what anyone else thinks of her and the value of finding friends who appreciate her for who she really is. The Little Rose was #1 on the Amazon Best-Seller List for over 60 weeks.

My books have been honored with multiple awards, including 3 gold medals in the Readers Favorite International Book Awards. I’m a recipient of the prestigious Gold Mom’s Choice Award honoring the best in family friendly entertainment. Discover more about me, my books, and my mission at www.SheriFink.com.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Authenticity is the key to success. If your brand is in alignment with who you really are, it’s easy to represent your brand and business flows more effortlessly.

2. Running your life and your business debt-free gives you incredible freedom and flexibility to take risks and grow while maintaining a solid foundation for your family.

3. You don’t have to know everything in order to get started. If you keep stepping forward in faith, your brand and your business will evolve bigger and better than you imagined.

My advice is to get started now. Learn the skills you need in order to be successful while saving up your resources. You’ll learn fastest through taking action and then course-correcting as needed. Attend conferences, build a community, read books, listen to podcasts, and find people who are happy and successful doing what you want to do.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The book that has had the most impact on me in the past year was The 12-Week Year: Get More Done in 12 Weeks than Others Do in 12 Months by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington. I’ve always been self-motivated and driven, but after my first year as a new mom, I was looking for a new way to set myself up for success in my business while balancing family time.

The 12-Week Year is a powerful book with strategies to accomplish more in 3 months than many accomplish in a year. The book really motivated me to super-charge my action-taking toward my goals and to track my progress (measuring both lead- and lag-indicators for the first time in my life).

I like that the authors encourage readers to celebrate taking consistent action and making progress, rather than solely focusing on achieving the end-result, which can sometimes be beyond our control. It’s about shifting our mindset and setting priorities in alignment with our goals and values.

I read a lot of personal development books and this is the best I’ve read in years for stoking motivation, building momentum, feeling fulfilled, and getting more done. I highly recommend it and look forward to reading it again!
