We were lucky to catch up with Sheridan Taylor recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sheridan, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
For some time I wasn’t as resilient as I am now. It took some years to develop this trait. Looking at what others around me, specifically my family, had to overcome throughout their lives and seeing how strong they are made me want to emulate that too. I have fallen many times and each time I feel I get back up stronger. I pray and rely more on God than myself to get me through whatever I may be up against.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a freelance photographer specializing in travel, food, and architectural photography. I’ve been fortunate enough to live and work in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and Washington DC. What I enjoy most about my job is getting to make connections and having the freedom to create what I like. Also, learning and working with other local photographers, specifically in LA.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe the most important qualities I’ve developed were staying focused, being open to change, and staying true to who I am. The best advice I can give is to always find the beauty in where you are on your journey. I used to struggle with that a lot until I remembered that where I am is temporary and the journey we are on won’t always be a happy one so it’s important to find the good in the little things on lifes journey while continuing to work towards your dreams.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
There have been many impactful things my mom has done for me but I would say the one that stands out the most is taking vacations together. This sparked my love for travel and exploring the world. We also made so many great memories growing up that I cherish so much. Even though my mom was a single mother, she didn’t let that stop her from giving my brother and I the best childhood we could have.
