Meet Sherri Anne Austria

We recently connected with Sherri Anne Austria and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sherri Anne, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Resilience is such a weighted concept, and I don’t take it lightly. It’s not just about enduring hardships—it’s about how you rise from them, how you adapt, and how you keep moving forward. My resilience comes from every aspect of my life that has shaped me—my environment, my upbringing, my experiences.

Where I came from played a huge role in that. Growing up in a third-world country, in a household with an average income, I saw firsthand what it meant to make things happen. My father worked overseas to provide for us, and my mother left a paying job to take care of me and my brother. There was no room for complacency—only perseverance. I learned early on that resilience isn’t just about pushing through challenges; it’s about doing so with purpose, with gratitude.

For me, resilience and gratitude go hand in hand. When you have a grateful heart, you develop a deeper understanding of what truly matters, and that gives you the strength to keep going, no matter what comes your way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My name is Sherri Anne Austria, and I’m a tattoo artist and the co-founder of Ethos Art Haus Tattoo, which we launched in July 2023. What sets us apart from other studios is our commitment to both our clients and our artists—we’re not just a tattoo shop; we’re a creative space built on growth, collaboration, and community.

As a new business, we believe in giving opportunities to emerging artists who are looking for a space to develop their craft. We’re passionate about honing talent, growing alongside our artists, and fostering a supportive, artist-forward environment. Beyond that, we regularly offer promos and special features that highlight our artists and their work, making sure both our team and our clients feel valued.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been adaptability, patience, and a strong sense of artistic integrity.

Adaptability has been crucial—both in the artistic sense and in running a business. The tattoo industry is constantly evolving, from techniques to trends to client expectations. Being able to adapt without compromising my style or values has helped me grow as an artist and a business owner. For anyone early in their journey, I’d say stay open to learning. Don’t be rigid in your approach, be a sponge, whether it’s with technique, customer service, or even business decisions. The more you can pivot and adjust while staying true to yourself, the stronger you’ll become.

Patience is something I didn’t fully appreciate until I was deep into my career. Mastering a craft takes time. Building a brand takes time. Even developing trust with clients and a reputation in the industry takes time. There are no shortcuts, so my advice is: embrace the process. Put in the work, stay consistent, and don’t get discouraged if success doesn’t happen overnight.

Lastly, artistic integrity is everything. It’s easy to get caught up in trends or feel pressure to create work that doesn’t align with your vision just to please the market. It is also essential to understand that it is not just about you, but also the client—It is a collaboration. I can also say that staying true to my artistic voice has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. My advice? Find your style, refine it, and own it. Clients and opportunities will come when your work is authentic and speaks for itself.

Above all, be patient and kind with yourself, stay open to growth, and never lose sight of why you started.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

Being a soft-spoken, go-with-the-flow type of person, owning a business has been an ongoing teacher in my life. Over the past year, my biggest area of growth has been developing confidence and assertiveness—not just as an artist, but as a leader.

Running a business means making tough decisions, setting boundaries, and advocating for both myself and my team. It’s pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone, to trust my instincts, and to communicate with more clarity and authority. I’ve learned that being assertive doesn’t mean being harsh—it means standing firm in my values, speaking up when necessary, and leading with both strength and empathy.

It’s still a work in progress, but I can feel the shift. I’m learning to own my space, to navigate challenges with more conviction, and to step into the role of a business owner with confidence.
