We recently connected with Sherrie Austin and have shared our conversation below.
Sherrie , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I wouldn’t say I have fully overcome imposter syndrome. What I will say is that I do each new task afraid. I constantly remind myself how i overcame each new chapter of my life. Being a mom at 18 years old, a new registered nurse–now in the game 26 years. Your first time is not that good, but practice makes permanent.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My background: I’m a registered nurse, freelance writer for several national magazines, a speaker and Quality Longevity Lifestyle Coach. Many will ask what is a Quality Longevity Lifestyle Coach? I am dedicated to teaching people how to eliminate chronic illnesses and diseases that are caused by poor lifestyle choices (e.g. smoking, moderate to heavy alcohol use, sedentary lifestyle) These lifestyle choices and many more contribute to chronic diseases such as heart disease, different forms of cancer, diabetes, kidney disease etc. These chronic diseases not only shorten the life span but also eliminates the quality of aging. I transform your lifestyle by giving you easy hacks to institute the changes necessary to live a quality, healthy, long life. My platform is Ask Nurse Sherrie. You kind find me on IG/FB/YouTube and LinkedIn @asknursesherrie. You can also find me on X at AskSherrieRN. You can check out my podcast on spotify–AskNurseSherrie. My website www.asknursesherrie.org has blogs about the importance of health and wellness along with easy to implement hacks. Coming soon: my Ebook about the pillars of a Quality Longevity Lifestyle and webinars that will give the cheat codes to slow down aging.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The 3 qualities that has been most impactful in my journey: Resilience, perseverance, and adaptability. Resilience–Know matter what life throws at me I KNOW that I will overcome it. Perserverance–I always had a can-do, fix-it mentality. From a child I stayed focused on the solution and what I wanted to achieve. Adaptability–Life will always throw curve balls. I’ve learned to listen to my inner guidance, God, and follow the path laid out even if it is not a part of MY original plan.
My advice to folks who are early in their journey is to get a coach. A coach helps you to collapse time. Skill up. Be consistent and resilient. Fail forward fast and keep going. No one’s first is great. Practice makes permanent.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would like to collaborate with anyone in the corporate health and wellness space who’s interesting in impacting the health of a multigenerational workforce. A healthy workforce helps corporations save money by maintaining employee retention and absenteeism due to illness. This also decreases the healthcare burden. Healthy people are happy and more productive. Corporations also are as productive as the health of its employees.
I would also like to collaborate with longevity lifestyle experts and enthusiasts. I want to leave a legacy of people easily and happily living, long healthy lives. I want to participate in creating a world where supercenterians –people living to age 110 or more, is the norm NOT the exception.
