Meet Sherrie Bennett

We recently connected with Sherrie Bennett and have shared our conversation below.

Sherrie, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I believe I received my generosity from my grandmother. She would bake cakes and pies and give them away as gifts for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She would volunteer at a lot of places when I was young and I saw how people reacted to her kindness.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I help others learn to get out of their comfort zone and create events so photographers can learn to photograph people. When I moved to Florida, most of the photographers I came in contact with only photo birds or landscapes. I put together a meet-up with a model to come out and let the photographers learn to photo people. I love to photo people in creative outfits. I try my best to find what the client wants and give them the images they will love to share.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I learned I needed to get out as much as possible with my camera and take pictures of whatever I could. I learned patience because I had a camera that not every photo would come out looking good. I learned how to use lighting and settings in my camera. My advice is for others to do the same, take your camera wherever you go and take photos of what is around you; go to meet-ups with other photographers, even if the subject is out of your own comfort zone.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I love to find makeup artists that would like to step out of their normal and we can find someone to give us both something to be proud of, when we look at the images. I love to find people that create outfits whether it is for every day or creative look. I want to showcase your talent with mine. I love historical, fantasy, mythical, whimsical and cultural clothing.
