Meet Sherry Steine

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sherry Steine. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sherry below.

Hi Sherry , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I get my work ethic from my father. Growing up in humble beginnings, I watched him work two jobs tirelessly to keep our family together. He was a former military man, and his discipline and sense of duty shaped my understanding of perseverance and commitment. My mother, a stay-at-home mom, was the heart of our home, ensuring that despite our circumstances, we always had a foundation of love and care. Seeing my father’s dedication taught me that when something is important, you prioritize it—no matter the obstacles.

That lesson has stayed with me throughout my life. I’ve faced my own challenges, including overcoming procrastination. But I’ve always seen myself as a manifester and a visionary. I have the ability to see the end before I even begin, and once I commit to something, I set clear deadlines and move with purpose.

One of the greatest tests of my discipline was writing my book, Landing on Your Feet and Putting Down Roots, where I shared 21 rituals to transform both life and interior space. Writing this book was not just a creative endeavor—it was a challenge of resilience. I wrote it in the middle of a very stressful divorce, a time when uncertainty clouded my personal world. Yet, I didn’t let that stop me. The momentum of the moment, the urgency of my vision, and the sheer will to complete it carried me through.

In 2020, I had another opportunity to put my work ethic to the test. I was awarded a full scholarship for yoga teacher training, an opportunity that I refused to take lightly. Even as the world was grappling with the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic, I stayed disciplined and committed, knowing that this was a path I deeply wanted to walk.

That same drive has brought me to where I am today—after five years and 14 months of dedication, I am now studying to become a Certified Yoga Therapist, with over 600 hours of training. Alongside this, I became a Certified Aromatherapist, further expanding my ability to serve others through holistic healing.

Through it all, I’ve carried the values my father instilled in me: discipline, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of what matters. His work ethic became the foundation for my own, and it has shaped the person I am today.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am deeply passionate about guiding women over 40 through their wellness journeys, and my work is an ever-evolving blend of therapuetic yoga, aromatherapy, and holistic home wellness using Feng Shui and Vastu. I am currently completing my Certified Yoga Therapy certification, a milestone that reflects my dedication to using yoga as a therapeutic tool for healing and transformation. My practice is rooted in helping mid-life women reconnect with their bodies, emotions, environment, and inner wisdom through yoga, wellness Feng Shui, and aromatherapy.

One of the most fulfilling aspects of my work is serving as a therapeutic yoga teacher in my community. I specialize in Yin and Restorative Yoga, and I have the privilege of working with women overcoming cancer through Hope Connections for Cancer, a nonprofit in Bethesda, Maryland. Supporting these women on their healing journeys is truly an honor—witnessing their strength and resilience continues to inspire me every day.

Beyond yoga, my passion for aromatherapy has led to the expansion of my aromatherapy apothecary product line. I believe in the power of scent to shift energy, uplift the spirit, and promote well-being, and I’m thrilled to be creating more intentional blends that align with both emotional and energetic needs. This expansion is also deeply connected to my upcoming launch of a 52-week Color Therapy and Aromatherapy Journal, a project close to my heart. This journal will feature weekly prompts and reflections, combining my expertise in color therapy with the healing properties of essential oils. What makes it even more special is that it will showcase my own watercolor art, adding a deeply personal and artistic touch to the experience.

I’m also focused on expanding my private yoga and wellness practice, integrating my knowledge of Feng Shui and Vastu to help women create spaces that nurture balance, peace, and vitality. Whether through one-on-one therapeutic yoga sessions, customized aromatherapy blends, or holistic home wellness consultations, my mission is to offer tools that empower women to cultivate harmony in their lives—both internally and externally.

This year is a season of growth for me, and I am excited about the opportunities ahead. From launching my journal to deepening my work in yoga therapy, every step I take is fueled by the desire to support women on their healing paths. My work is about more than just wellness—it’s about transformation, empowerment, and creating spaces where women feel truly seen, supported, and aligned.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I would say the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are discipline, intuition, and adaptability.

Discipline – Whether it was completing my yoga therapy certification, writing my book Landing on Your Feet and Putting Down Roots during a stressful time, or expanding my private wellness practice, discipline has been the foundation of everything I do. I’ve learned that motivation comes and goes, but discipline keeps you moving forward. My advice to those early in their journey is to set clear goals with deadlines and commit to them—even when it gets tough. Small, consistent actions will always lead to progress.

Intuition – Learning to trust my instincts has been essential in shaping my path. Whether it’s designing a therapeutic yoga session, crafting an aromatherapy blend, or guiding a client in Feng Shui adjustments, my intuition helps me connect deeply with people and their needs. I encourage those just starting out to develop self-awareness and trust their inner voice. Meditation, journaling, and reflective practices can help cultivate this inner wisdom.

Adaptability – Life is unpredictable, and the ability to pivot gracefully has been crucial in my journey. From shifting to online yoga sessions during the pandemic to adjusting my offerings as my expertise deepened, adaptability has allowed me to grow in ways I never anticipated. My advice? Be open to change, embrace continuous learning, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Challenges will come, but how you respond to them will define your success.

For anyone just beginning their path, I would say: stay committed, trust yourself, and remain flexible in your approach. The journey is never linear, but with the right mindset, every step—no matter how small—will lead you toward something greater.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

One book that played a profound role in my personal and professional development is Iyanla Vanzant’s Peace from Broken Pieces: How to Get Through What You’re Going Through. This book came into my life at a time when I was navigating deep personal challenges, and it resonated with me on so many levels.

One of the most impactful lessons I took from it was the idea that our pain holds wisdom, and if we don’t deal with our wounds, they will deal with us. Iyanla’s journey of facing generational trauma, grief, and loss helped me recognize the importance of acknowledging my own experiences instead of suppressing them. It reinforced for me that healing isn’t about erasing pain—it’s about learning from it and allowing it to shape us in healthier ways.

Another powerful takeaway was her discussion on alignment and self-trust. She talks about how we often ignore the signs when things are misaligned in our lives—whether in relationships, careers, or even within ourselves. That message reminded me to listen to my intuition more deeply and to trust that when something feels “off,” it usually is. This has been instrumental in how I now approach my work in yoga therapy, aromatherapy, and holistic wellness—I teach women how to recognize what is no longer serving them and to find peace in realigning with what does.

Lastly, her words about using life’s hardest moments as stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks really stayed with me. When I wrote my book Landing on Your Feet and Putting Down Roots, I was going through my own period of transition and healing. Reading Peace from Broken Pieces helped me frame my challenges not as something that was happening to me, but rather as something that was happening for me—a shift in perspective that has carried me forward ever since.

This book gave me the permission to embrace my own story—flaws, fractures, and all—while still believing in my ability to create something beautiful from it. And that’s exactly what I try to help others do through my work. Iyanla Vanzant is one of my major “sheroes” and someone I have had the great fortune to meet and study with. I graduated from her Spiritual Warrior Program five years ago which has had a profound impact on my life ever since.
