We were lucky to catch up with Sheterius Platt-Shepherd recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sheterius, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my upbringing and life experiences combined. My Mom has always been my biggest supporter, she taught myself and my sisters at an early age to never quit! Regardless of the outcome, continue striving to achieve whatever the goal is.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an Army Veteran with higher level education in the field of Counseling and Psychology. After retiring from the U.S. Army with the rank of Captain, I decided to enroll in community college to become a licensed esthetician. My love and passion for all things beauty really developed during my first overseas deployment. During my down time, I would watch numerous videos on YouTube, which led to practicing on myself. Fast-forward to present day, I have been able to hone in on my skills and share them with others in the beauty community. In addition to being a content creator, I am married with one fur baby and I love them dearly. I enjoy mentoring, listening to music, traveling, being a foodie, spending quality time with family/friends and napping lol.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Serving in the military as an Officer, which taught me to be selfless and lead with compassion.
2. One of my best qualities is, being able to treat others with dignity and respect.
3. One of my best skills is, being a researcher especially when its something I am interested in.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my mother did for me, was showing me that my opportunities in life could be limitless. She’d say “ladybug, the world is so much bigger than Atlanta, go explore it”.
