We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shi’Ana Roberts a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shi’Ana, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My grandma was the first person to show me what true generosity looked like. She didn’t just give she gave with warmth, with grace, and with no expectation of anything in return. She used to say, “Treat others the way you want to be treated, even when it’s hard, especially when it’s hard.” I watched her open her home, her hands, and her heart to people without hesitation. Whether it was cooking extra food for someone in need or offering a comforting word to a stranger, she made kindness feel natural like breathing. From her, I learned that generosity isn’t just about giving things away it’s about making people feel seen, valued, and loved. And now, in everything I do, I try to carry that same light she gave to me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As a beauty enthusiast, fashion designer, and content creator, I’m deeply focused on building not just a brand, but a thriving community. What excites me most is connecting with people learning their stories, understanding their cultures, and celebrating the unique beauty in everyone. Through SHIAN, I want you to feel empowered from the inside out bold, confident, and unapologetically yourself. When you wear SHIAN, it’s not just about being fly on the outside; it’s about embracing your natural beauty and walking in your truth. I’m currently working on an exciting new winter collection, set to drop this December so stay tuned. Big things are coming, and I can’t wait to share them with you.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are perseverance, being detail-oriented, and having the courage to take risks. Along the way, I’ve learned that networking, embracing every opportunity no matter how small and leading with kindness are powerful skills that open doors. Knowing how to navigate and own the rooms you’re in, while staying curious and open to learning, has also made a big difference. My biggest advice to anyone early in their journey is this: get out of your own way and keep going. Strive to be better than the person you were yesterday, and never stop being a student no matter how much you think you know, there’s always more to learn. Nobody has it all figured out, and that’s okay. Make peace with the mishaps and find joy in them, because those moments are what shape and strengthen you.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was believe in me especially during times when I didn’t fully believe in myself. They constantly pushed me to pursue my dreams and reminded me that no goal was ever too big or too small. Whether it was through financial support or simply words of encouragement, they always found a way to help me move forward. Their unwavering support gave me the confidence to keep going, even when things got tough, and that kind of love and belief has made all the difference in my journey.
