We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shino Bay Aguilera a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shino Bay , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
“I draw my resilience from overcoming adversity and embracing the energy of change. Born into poverty in Panama City, Panama, I endured various forms of child abuse and bullying. I am no stranger to pain, suffering from severe asthma, neglect, and abuse. Despite these challenges, an inner voice guided me with love and compassion, helping me transform hate into love, pain into pride, and disease into supreme health.”
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a world-renowned cosmetic dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon specializing in aesthetic medicine, with vast knowledge in bioregenerative techniques. I am the founder of Shino Bay Cosmetic Dermatology and Laser Institute in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My passion lies in non-surgical facial rejuvenation, advanced laser treatments, and body contouring techniques.
What excites me most about my work is the ability to enhance natural beauty and help individuals achieve age-defying results. I utilize cutting-edge techniques and technology to provide my patients with optimal outcomes, ensuring they look and feel their best.
Beyond my practice, I frequently lecture internationally and have authored several publications in the field of dermatology. I am dedicated to educating other professionals and advancing the field of aesthetic medicine, particularly in the emerging field of Bioregenerative Aesthetic Medicine, which I have been a strong advocate for since 2009.
Currently, I am focused on introducing the new concept of functional aesthetic medicine and changing the way we perceive the aging process at a cellular level. My goal is to lead the cosmetic industry in embracing aesthetic procedures that go beyond merely appearing younger by using synthetic gels. Instead, I aim to help our patients achieve true rejuvenation and successful longevity. In my clinic, I continue to provide exceptional care and innovative treatments to my patients, while also giving them a spiritual facelift, so they can love themselves at every age.
I am passionate about transforming lives through beauty and health, and I am grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact on my patients’ lives.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Understanding how to manifest in this realm of physicality is a skill I honed by never losing my inner child. As children, we naturally daydream and live in the present. However, as we mature, we are conditioned by a system of punishment and rewards—what I call the human domestication process—to lose our ability to daydream, which is crucial for manifesting through visualization. Instead, we become preoccupied with the past and the future.
I have an open mind. Open-mindedness is the key that unlocks the doors to spiritual growth and understanding. It allows us to transcend the limitations of our human conditioning and explore new perspectives. By questioning the beliefs that hold us back, we can expand our consciousness and find true wisdom.
I believe that uncertainty is the root of all evil. This energy causes us to sabotage our dreams, goals, and true happiness. Therefore, no matter how dark things may seem, I remain certain that everything will work out for the best.
Learning to discern who to share your dreams and goals with is crucial. There are co-dreamers and dream killers, so it is important to recognize who they are and only share with co-dreamers, as they believe in your dreams and goals even more than you do. Dream killers can physically or energetically destroy your dreams and goals.
I have learned to be flexible. Being flexible when things are not going your way allows you to truly connect with reality, adapting to changes in the world around you and in the people you encounter as they grow and evolve. When you’re rigid or set in your ways, you’re cutting yourself off from the vibrancy of life, missing out on the joy and fulfillment of being truly alive. Each day provides an opportunity to nurture mental flexibility by embracing new experiences and perspectives. It’s important to break free from routines, try new things, and be open to change. Rigidity weakens your life force because rigid things are prone to breaking.
I practice gratitude every day. I begin and end my day by thanking the universe for all my blessings. I understand that my abundance may not always come in material form but rather as peace of mind, health, and the protection of my loved ones.
By releasing resistance and approaching life with gratitude and belief in your own abilities, you can shape the reality you desire. I embrace the natural flow of life and release any negativity or uncertainty that may be blocking my path to achieving my dreams and goals.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My Higher-Self. Growing up, I had no one. My parents did not raise me, and my grandmother did what she could with what she had. I had no role models or anyone to turn to. Most people might hear this and feel sorry for me, but don’t. Without this experience, I would lack compassion, and worse, I wouldn’t be the man I am today. I like who I have become.
From the moment I had the use of reason, I felt a strong sense that I was different. As a child, I had an inner knowing that I was meant for greatness, destined to achieve more than the ordinary. Now I understand that I was the black wolf of my family.
I felt a fire burning inside me, a flame that couldn’t be extinguished. I dreamt of a life filled with beauty, abundance, and happiness, and these dreams guided me through the ups and downs of life.
Growing up in Panama, where poverty was prevalent, I refused to let my circumstances define me. I knew deep down that I was capable of breaking free from the limitations that surrounded me. I wanted to transcend the generational curses that plagued my family and create a better future for myself and my progeny. I was determined to change the consciousness of those around me, to inspire them to strive for more.
With unwavering belief in myself and my abilities, I embarked on my chosen path. I became a guiding light for others, helping them navigate their own challenges and find their purpose. Like a black wolf, I embraced my resilience and strength, knowing that it was within me all along.
There were times when life threw its darkest moments at me, but I always managed to rise above. I refused to let the darkness consume me. Instead, I let my inner light shine through, becoming a beacon of hope for those around me. I became a catalyst for change, encouraging others to believe in themselves and to never give up on their dreams.
Deep within my soul, I felt a powerful urge to howl, to make my presence known to the world. I wanted to break free from the expectations that society had placed upon me. I wanted to show the world that regardless of the color of our skin, our social status, sexual orientation, or race, we are all part of one human consciousness.
Since that day, this feeling has never left me. It has become a part of who I am, a driving force that keeps me going. I embrace my destiny, knowing that it is my calling to bring joy and positivity to the lives of others. I am determined to make a difference, to leave a lasting impact on the world.
Now, I can see and understand that the voice who was always guiding me, the voice telling me how to respond to people and circumstances, the voice who said I was going to be a doctor, I was going to be accepted, I was going to be loved…. that voice full of wisdom and information about my future. The future I always daydreamed of. That voice was and has always been my Higher-self.
