We recently connected with Shirlonda Chambliss-Drummond and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shirlonda, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Unfortunately, I found my purpose through the untimely and unexpected death of my brother, Willie “Boogee” Chambliss, who passed away from COVID in 2021. My brother passed away, leaving behind his wife and 11-year-old daughter. In an effort to honor his memory and support my niece, Bella, I thought it may be a great idea to give family and friends the opportunity to purchase a shirt with #Chamblissnation logo he created. The response I received was overwhelming, and we raised over $1,000 for his daughter’s “life fund” within two months. As the demand grew, I realized that this was more than just a way to honor my brother’s memory. It’s been a bittersweet journey, but one that has given me a clear sense of direction and purpose. Chamblissnation Apparel was born from this experience, and we continue to honor his memory and promote unity and inclusivity through our brand.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the CEO, Social Media and Content Creator, Marketing Director, and Promoter for Chamblissnation Apparel. Our brand is all about family – it’s laid-back, inclusive, and promotes unity. Our slogan is “YOUR PEOPLE, MY PEOPLE, WE FAMILY,” and we treat our customers as part of the Chamblissnation family. We offer a variety of apparel with family sayings, and our new spring arrivals are available now with free shipping on select items. Our brand has a global reach, with ambassadors and influencers in the UK and the US.
Right now, we have launched our spring collection with several designs with our slogan. We also have personalized area code apparel where you can represent your city and let everyone know you are apart of the Chamblissnation family.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important skills in any business are consistency, flexibility, and creativity. It’s essential not to be afraid to try new things and to stay consistent with your social media presence. Don’t get caught up in likes and shares – focus on creating quality content and engaging with your audience consistently. Flexibility is also crucial in a constantly changing world. Finally, creativity allows you to stand out and offer something unique.
I like to use Amazon as an example of how customers save items in their cart and watch for sales or decide whether they really want to purchase something. Business is the same way. You never know who is watching you and looking for credibility, which comes with consistency. So, my advice to folks who are early in their journey is to stay persistent, try new things, and remain consistent with their social media presence.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, we are always open to collaboration and partnerships with those who share our mission and values. We’re looking for individuals and brands that are excited about our brand and willing to promote it through wearing our apparel, posting, sharing, and supporting our mission. If you’re interested in collaborating, please visit our website at chamblissnation.com, email, or reach out to us on social media.
