We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shivae Willis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shivae below.
Shivae , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose early on after embarking on a spiritual journey. It was during high school that I took a psychology class and was instantly intrigued by the topic. I was drawn to helping people who suffered with mental disorders and struggles with their mental health, as stabilizing the mind is essential to everything we do. I wanted to help everyone who struggled internally as I myself went through a period of sorrow which made me understand and feel for individuals who suffer with depression. Thereafter, I pursued a psychology degree in college and received my bachelors in science and got my first job in social work. I fell in love with working with the underserved community and helping those who could not help themselves. I later on decided to pursue a nursing degree where I worked with individuals who suffered with mental health disorders such as alcohol withdrawal, depression, anxiety and schizophrenia. I was especially drawn to these individuals and plan to work with this population after graduating with my nursing degree.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
At the moment, I am focused on becoming a health professional while pursuing my artistic ventures. I am most excited about helping my community build their mental and physical health at its optimal. I plan to provide creative ways to inform the public on ways to improve their mental health such as through social media platforms, podcasts, YouTube and through my brand. I would love to create a positive change in the lives of my supporters and as many people as possible.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Patience, perseverance, and wisdom were the qualities I believe were most impactful on my journey. Times of adversity, dark moments, and trials allowed me to have the perseverance I have today, as well as understanding individuals who are struggling through these moments of their lives. I advice individuals to stay focused on their destination, enjoy the journey including the good with the bad, and continue pressing on despite the way they feel. Embracing the good with the bad will make them a better person in the end and they will feel grateful to have gone through it.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
A book that has helped me through both my spiritual and life journey is “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz. These four agreements had the ability to change the way I viewed life to be impeccable with your word, don’t take anything personally, don’t make assumptions, and always do your best. Following these four pieces of advice throughout life will not only change how we view stress and worries but also how we perceive it. This allowed me to flourish into my best self, showing up with giving my best effort at all times, and not allowing anyone to dim my light on the way to the destination.
