Meet SHN

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to SHN. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi SHN, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
Most times, I take a break from trying. It can be frustrating and upsetting, but I’ve tried to force things out and I’ve learnt 9 out of 10 times, it’s not great. I think it’s important to be disciplined in creating and practice honing your craft, but sometimes showing up is enough – and if nothing great comes out of it, move on to the next thing or take a break.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m SHN and I write and perform music. I’ve always loved storytelling and it feeds my soul crafting narratives into sonically cohesive works of art.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Getting out of your comfort zone, discipline and a genuine excitement for your craft. It’s always different for everyone, isn’t it? I’d say, the biggest hurdles when first starting out is usually yourself. You just gotta do it.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I give myself a day to cry about it – and then I move on the next day. I believe I got that from Beyonce.
