Hi Shomoneik, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Growing up, I was constantly plagued by the question, “What is my purpose?” I believed that purpose was a singular job that encapsulated all my gifts and talents. Teaching seemed like the perfect fit. I loved children, teaching, inspiring others, using my creativity, and I thrived on being flexible. For 18 years, I dedicated myself to the profession I thought defined my purpose.
Then, one day, I heard a clear message from the Lord: “This is your last year teaching.” At first, I thought it was a practical joke. Teaching was all I had ever done; it was who I was. It felt like my purpose. But this message prompted me to dig deeper into what “purpose” truly meant.
I discovered that purpose isn’t confined to a job title. It’s my brilliance—the unique qualities and passions that shine through effortlessly, regardless of whether I’m being paid. This realization led me to reflect on my life and recognize a pattern: I am an encourager and a teacher.
Throughout my life, in various roles and stages, I’ve naturally gravitated towards these qualities. In middle school, high school, and college, I encouraged and taught as a cheerleader. In my career, I brought these gifts to my work as a public school teacher and later as a Director for the Children’s Ministry at my church. Now, in my new season as a Family Manager (stay-at-home mom), I continue to embody these roles.
Finding my purpose wasn’t about a specific job; it was about living authentically and paying attention to what flows naturally from me. Encouraging and teaching others is my true purpose, and it manifests in every role I undertake. As I continue my journey, I am committed to embracing these gifts, knowing they will guide me to inspire and uplift those around me.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, I recognize three qualities that have been most impactful: adaptability, empathy, and faith in God. These elements have not only guided me through various life changes but have also shaped my personal and professional growth.
My advice for those who are early in their journey is to stay open to change. Embrace uncertainty and view changes as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles. Sometimes, life throws us curveballs beyond our control. Learn to roll with the punches by adjusting your plans and expectations. Flexibility is key to thriving amid change.
Strengthening empathy involves active listening and making a conscious effort to see situations from others’ viewpoints. Interact with people from different backgrounds to broaden your understanding and appreciation of various perspectives. These practices will enhance your ability to connect deeply with others and build supportive relationships.
My faith in God has provided strength, guidance, and a sense of purpose, especially during challenging times. It has been the cornerstone of my journey, helping me stay grounded in my values and navigate life’s ups and downs. I strongly encourage you to set aside time daily for prayer, praise, and seeking guidance. This routine will help you maintain a strong spiritual foundation.
Personal and professional growth takes time. Be patient with yourself and celebrate small milestones along the way. Embracing adaptability, empathy, and faith in God will equip you to navigate your journey with resilience and purpose. These qualities have been instrumental in shaping my path, and I believe they can do the same for you.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The number one obstacle I am currently facing is the challenge of transition. Moving from a long-established career in teaching to a new path as a content creator has been both exciting and daunting. This transition requires a shift in skills and mindset.
I am focusing on staying open to change and viewing this transition as an opportunity for growth. By embracing adaptability, I am learning to be flexible with my plans and expectations, allowing me to navigate this new territory more smoothly.
My faith in God provides strength and guidance during this uncertain period. I dedicate time daily for prayer and reflection, seeking guidance and maintaining a sense of purpose and direction.
Letting go of the past is challenging, but it’s essential for moving forward. I remind myself that while my teaching career was fulfilling, it was a chapter in my life that has prepared me for this new journey. Reflecting on my accomplishments and the impact I had helps me appreciate that those experiences are a foundation, not a tether.
By embracing these strategies, I am confident that I will overcome this challenge and thrive in my new role as a content creator.
