Meet Siddarth Nandyala

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Siddarth Nandyala a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Siddarth, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

Creativity is crucial when running any business, whether it is developing innovative educational tools with STEM IT or creating AI-based solutions to solve real-world problems. Staying creative involves several key practices and philosophies that I integrate into my daily life.

First and foremost, I stay curious and always seek to learn more. Whether it’s diving deeper into advanced coding languages like Python and C++ or exploring the latest developments in artificial intelligence and machine learning, I’m constantly pushing the boundaries of what I know and can do. This continuous learning fuels my creativity and helps me come up with innovative solutions and ideas.

I also love to solve problems. Whether it’s through creating educational kits with STEM IT or developing AI-based solutions like a fall detection system for the elderly, problem-solving is at the heart of what I do. Tackling challenges head-on keeps my mind sharp and my creativity flowing. Each problem is an opportunity to think outside the box and come up with unique, effective solutions.

Playing chess is another activity that helps keep my creativity alive. Chess requires strategic thinking and foresight, skills that are invaluable in both technology and business. It’s a game that pushes you to think several steps ahead, and this strategic mindset is something I carry over into my work with STEM IT and my various projects.

Additionally, I believe in the power of collaboration and mentorship. Working with my team at STEM IT and seeking advice from mentors allows me to see things from different perspectives and gain new insights. This collaborative approach often leads to innovative ideas and solutions that I might not have come up with on my own.

Finally, my passion for making a positive impact drives me to keep innovating. Whether it’s through developing tools to help learners master STEM skills or creating technology to improve people’s lives, knowing that my work can make a difference keeps me motivated and inspired.

By combining continuous learning, problem-solving, strategic thinking, collaboration, and a passion for impact, I keep my creativity alive and thriving, driving both my personal growth and the success of STEM IT

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Creativity is crucial when running any business, whether it is developing innovative educational tools with STEM IT or creating AI-based solutions to solve real-world problems. Through my passion to invent and create positive change, I stay creative by continuously learning, solving problems, playing chess, and collaborating with others.

As the CEO and Founder of STEM IT, I focus on transforming STEM-based learning by creating educational kits that combine robotics, coding, and comprehensive curricula. These kits empower young learners to explore and develop their coding and engineering skills creatively.

One of the most exciting projects I’m working on is developing an AI algorithm that can detect and grade diabetic retinopathy using a picture of the fundus of the eye. This project aims to provide an affordable and accessible solution for early detection of this condition, potentially improving the lives of many individuals.

STEM IT has received numerous accolades, including 2nd place nationally at the Saunders Scholars National Competition, the People’s Choice Award at the same event, and being named the National STEM Champion in 2024. I’ve also been recognized as the Innovator of the Year by the Frisco Chamber of Commerce and a finalist in both the SXSW Student Impact Challenge and the Beta Blox Entrepreneurship Reality Show.

These achievements, along with proclamations from the Mayor of Frisco and the Governor of Texas, a Certificate of Recognition from the U.S. Congress, and letters of congratulations from President Biden and former President Obama, reflect the significant impact and potential of our work at STEM IT

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Being an entrepreneur is both challenging and rewarding, requiring a combination of key qualities to succeed. Looking back, the qualities that were most impactful in my journey are curiosity, resilience, and strategic thinking.

Curiosity drives continuous learning and innovation. By staying curious, I’ve been able to explore new technologies, ideas, and solutions, which has been fundamental in developing products and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Resilience has been crucial in overcoming failures and setbacks. Viewing obstacles as learning opportunities has allowed me to grow and stay motivated even when faced with challenges. This mindset is essential for anyone pursuing ambitious goals.

Strategic thinking is another key factor. Planning ahead and thinking several steps ahead, much like in chess, has been essential for making informed decisions and achieving long-term goals. It helps in navigating complex situations and staying focused on the bigger picture.

For those early in their journey, my advice is to always stay curious, embrace failures as learning opportunities, and practice strategic thinking in all your endeavors. Seek mentors and collaborate with others to gain diverse perspectives and insights. Keep pushing boundaries and never stop learning.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

Being a 13-year-old young entrepreneur comes with its own set of challenges and constraints. My parents played a crucial role in helping me navigate these challenges and grow as an entrepreneur.

Firstly, my parents provided unwavering support and encouragement. They believed in my ideas and dreams, which gave me the confidence to pursue my passion for technology and innovation.

Secondly, they guided me with valuable advice and mentorship. They helped me understand the importance of strategic planning, financial management, and networking, which are essential skills for any entrepreneur.

Additionally, my parents instilled important values in me, such as resilience and perseverance. They taught me that setbacks are part of the journey and encouraged me to learn from failures and keep moving forward.

Overall, my parents’ support, guidance, and values have been instrumental in shaping me as a young entrepreneur. I am grateful for their constant belief in me and their commitment to helping me succeed.
