Meet Sidney Briley Jr

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sidney Briley Jr. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sidney below.

Sidney, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

If i’m being honest. I still struggle with this. Overthinking and over critiquing my own working thinking that i have no business being in this field. What is helping me to push through is the love and support from family and friends. who constantly push me to show my skills and abilities. In addition within myself i’ve had to decide who’s opinion really matters. As long as i’m proud of my work, then it really doesn’t matter if everyone agrees. Those who need and want my services will find me. And if nothing else, ill love my own work!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hey there! Im Sidney, owner of “SBJ Enterprises. LLC”. My primary business focus is photography, with a sub-focus in creative design. From photo shoots to custom flyers, and media production i do a bit of everything. I have a passion for making people smile and helping them achieve their goal of creating timeless memories. In my photography i love taking photos of small events and intimate photoshoots for private clients. In creative design i love making flyers for events and small scale videos for promotional and person use, and media production is all about delivering a quality streaming service to those looking to share their ideas and messages with the world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Flexibility: The plan doesn’t always go as planned! This doesn’t mean that you’ve done anything wrong or that the idea was bad, but unforeseen circumstance come up! In cases like this, go with the flow and be willing to readjust. Maybe you need to pick a new shoot location, maybe you have to go without a piece of equipment.. Sometimes a design needs to be taken back to the drawing board… Make the shift, sometimes its these readjustments that truly allow the vision to come to life.

Never stop creating: I can be guilty of this too. so please know i’d never say anything i haven’t experienced. If you paint paint what you love and do it often, if your a photographer always stay behind your camera and so on.. Ive learned that when you continue to learn your craft, you can create new methods to accomplish a task or even find new aspects of your passion.

Network: Meet people in your field. See people as companions and competitors. Learn from one another, share ideas and its ok if you minic one another, just make it your own!

How would you describe your ideal client?

The perfect client? A client that has vision of their own but is also willing to hear my input and create together! In my process i value collaboration over solo vision. For this reason i love, talking with my clients and bouncing ideas of each each. I as a photographer and creative understand that the vision is fluid and always has space to change. Sometimes this can be difficult to convey this to clients.

Whenever i meet with a client, we discuss in as much detail as possible how they want the vision to unfold. Now this varies depending on the project but the goal is always the same. Once i feel i have a clear idea of the clients wants and needs i start to sprinkle in my creative insights. Sometimes this means telling the client that we need to readjust the vision. Sometimes it’s suggesting a new shoot location or a new outfit, reassessing the equipment needed for the task or even something as small as picking new colors.

When a client is willing to hear these insights and ideas be willing to adjust it makes the process cohesive. Ive had great shoots where the client had a brilliant on site idea and we flowed perfectly; or making some adjustments to a design , gave way to a beautiful outcome. Its a team effort,
