Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sidney Villegas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Sidney, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I developed these traits through self reflection, changing my mindset, and loving my beauty within. I truly believe that the prettiest trait I have is my heart. My exterior features are just the tip of the ice burg of my beauty.
Growing up, I actually never thought that I was attractive. I wore glasses at a young age, had big frizzy hair (it was actually curly but my mother did not know how to manage it), and dressed like a tom-boy. I grew up with a traditional Asian family as well, so the western beauty standard was very much a thing. My family always made comments about how dark my skin was and often said I should stay out of the sun. As a kid, I wanted so badly to please my caretakers and abide by their wishes. The older I got the more I started to feel like I was not enough and compare myself to others.
When I was 22, I got out of a 7 year relationship. I had zero confidence and zero self love coming out of that. I had no idea who I actually was outside of that relationship. I made it a priority to start a journey of getting to know who I was. Through this journey, I ended up falling in love with who I am and who I was becoming. Changing my mindset and practicing positive self talk and gratitude daily has brought me so much peace. I felt my energy shift and others have noticed this “glow” as well.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am focused on expanding my modeling career. I am also working on launching a skincare line as well! I am in an era of my life where I am really focusing on my passion projects and doing things that truly bring me joy. I spent so much time being apart of corporate America that it is refreshing to finally focus on things that actually matter to me!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Qualities that were most impactful in my journey has to be being a good listener, be personable, and show up!
When you are a good listener, you are a pleasant person to work with. For example, when I am on set being directed, I am highly focused on making the director’s vision come to life.
When you are personable, people remember how you make them feel. There have been numerous doors opened for me simply because another person remembered how I made them feel on set.
When you show up, you are reliable. I have repeatedly worked with different clients simply because they know I will be there if I say I will.
The best way to develop or improve on these skills are by being mindful and aware that everyone’s time is valuable. How you impact other peoples’ time can impact yours in great ways!
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
“The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k” changed my whole perspective on life. Naturally, I am such a caring person. So much that I, too, cared so heavily on what people thought of me. I would care about why people didn’t like me, why I could not be as good as so and so, and pretty much anything and everything. The book made me realize that you should only care about things that *atually* matter and focus on things that you can change. It is exhausting giving so much energy into every single thing. Once you figure out what actually matters, life becomes so much more peaceful.
