Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sienna Nelson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sienna, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience, for me personally, comes from the space of failure. The ability to fail over and over again, make a mistake, experience a set back but continuously trying again is resilience in its simplest form.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Sienna Nelson and I am a 27 year old fashion visionary. I am currently working on building a new brand by the name of Stvple. Stvple’s goal is to provide women’s looks with pieces I would consider closet necessities. Every piece is either handcrafted or handpicked by myself. Stvple is a fairly new brand which was birthed through my first business, White Lephant. White Lephant started from a hobby of thrifting during my junior year at Hampton University. One piece that carried over to Stvple from White Lephant is my denim pants. I think the most important and exciting part of this journey of building a brand is the fact that its me in art form. I believe one of the greatest ways to express yourself is through Fashion; what you choose to wear. The number one goal for anything I put my hands on is impact. I want women to feel good in the pieces they choose to buy from me!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say three impactful qualities on this journey have been:
1. Ability to receive criticism
2. Trusting my inner creative vision/direction
3. Discipline
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I would have to say my village, but more specifically my parents. My mother and father create the perfect balance of what I need to hear and what I do not want to hear. My mom provides unsolicited feedback and criticism most days lol but its usually accurate. I appreciate her for pushing the envelope and telling me what I need to hear even though I may not be the most receptive at the time. It helps me in the long run. And on the other hand, my dad gives me business advice very raw and uncut. Also focusing on taking risks, doing it scared. I appreciate his approach because its the reason Im built pretty tough when it comes to this entrepreneurial thing . All in all, they have watched me evolve over the years and I know for a fact I’ve become even more clear and polished because of their unconditional support.
