We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sierra Brooks a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sierra, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I look up to several amazing people for their resilience, but the main ones are Auntie Trenise, Father Randy, and my sister Shauntel. These incredible individuals always handle pressure with grace and overcome every obstacle that comes their way. Life can be full of surprises, but these folks know how to stay strong and keep pushing forward. Their strength, excellent advice, and unwavering support have helped me overcome many challenges, and I’m truly grateful for them

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
With over 11 years of experience as a human resources professional, I take great pride in being an African American woman making strides in this industry. I am incredibly optimistic about the future as I push my business forward and assist other small businesses in implementing best practices. My passion lies in advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts while championing perks and incentives to drive employee success. I am continuously evolving and dedicated to ensuring that small businesses acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of all employees, regardless of their role.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My resilience, my drive, and my passion to help others. Two years ago, I was extremely lost and broken due to several factors. Now, I want to help and inspire others. My advice to people is to surround themselves with like-minded individuals who know they want more.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Tough love, and being hard me help me be exactly where Im at.
