Meet Sierra Johnson

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sierra Johnson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sierra below.

Hi Sierra, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

First, let’s define the word resilience.

Resilience is the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties.

The keywords that stand out to me are withstand and recover.

Growing up as a child, my grandfather always taught me to be strong, determined, and to never give up. My grandfather’s favorite thing to say was “practice makes perfect” meaning no matter how many times you get it wrong, or you fall down, get back up and try again until you get it right, or until you succeed. He raised me to not have any fear while facing any challenges, obstacles, and difficulties. He demonstrated what resilience is.

I did not have a clear innerstanding of the word and its meaning until I became an adult and a parent, that the difficulties I experienced builds character. Over the years, as I began to learn who I was as a human being, what I stand for, and what I believe in, I changed my perception and approach while facing difficulties. That is when I became resilient, innerstanding the lessons I was being taught in life and innerstanding that the difficulties, challenges, and obstacles I experienced were not meant to break or tear me down. They were meant to help me evolve and improve my way of life. I learned and developed skills to help withstand and recover from difficulties that come my way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a Licensed Massage Therapist, and I am the owner of ELA House of Wellness which is a Holistic wellness company that provides a variety of services such as massage therapy, stretch therapy, reiki, meditation sessions, and holistic products.

The most exciting thing about being a therapist and the owner of a holistic wellness company is I get to be a part of someone’s healing journey, witness their evolution, their growth process, aiding them in staying in alignment, and just being their safe space during this process. I enjoy seeing individuals become and be their best selves.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Most important qualities that were impactful for me was learning humility, responsibility, and honesty. My advice to someone would be to learn how to be honest with yourself first because if you cannot be honest with yourself, then how can you be honest with someone else. Just like charity starts at home, honesty begins with yourself. Get clear on who you are and what you want. Be responsible for every aspect of journey. You are the main character, and you are starring in the leading role. You are responsible for everything happens in your life while you are on this journey. And be humble through the entire process. Never forget where you come from or how far you’ve come.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, I meditate and pray. I go into a deep meditation to release all of the thoughts from today, to release the stress of the day, to release the tension from my body. Then I bring myself back to the very reason why I started this journey, and I let it motivate me and give me the strength and courage to push forward. Daily meditation or daily prayer is needed. When I added it to my daily routine, I saw a change immediately.
