Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Simone. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Simone, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Everything started 12 years ago in my own town in Italy.
At that time I was working as a electrician without any artist school background. It was my sister’s birthday and I decided to gift to her a tattoo. I did book an appointment for her and me both. The day of my appointment I started speaking with the tattooist about tattoo industry. Everything what this old tattooist was explaining me about the history of tattoos and all the different styles existing was very interesting to me.
From there I did start to watch lots of documentary, reading books about it and visit few tattoo conventions, I did start to drawing every day, hoping that I would start in the tattoo industry one day. After 1 year I did decide to leave my own country and try to find an apprenticeship in London. At the beginning I started working as a dishwasher in a reasturant until I found a tattoo shop that was open to teach me everything. The owner and my mentor is an Hungarian tattooist, with 25 years experience. He was also an artistic teacher in the university what helped me a lot with my artistic skills. From there on I started to drawing and practice every day, trying to learn new things from everyone. At the moment I am tattooing from 9 years.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I do love tattoo and drawing realism and surrealism. The things what I am enjoying to tattoo the most are woman’s portraits, statues and animals. Usually I love to combine it with abstract hints and planets or whatever coming from the space.
Most of the times I am tattooing or drawing in black and white because I find it very elegant and at the same time it reminds me vintage photos what are super interesting to me.
In the last 4 years I tried to participate to few tattoo conventions in US and U.K trying to win some competitions and learning new things from other artists. At the moment I am very satisfied from the results because I managed to win a first place at the London convention in 2023 and 3rd place in Baltimore and Minneapolis in 2023 and 2025. I am very focused do not lose my passion by studying, making seminars and experimenting new techniques every time, what make my passion more exiting.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
– motivation
-Percistenc
-Practice
My best advice to people that would love to start tattooing is to start a proper apprenticeship, with people that are passionate on this industry.
To practice everyday day, 7 days a week because everyone can achieve everything and excel on it with the right amount of time.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My mentor what teached me about tattoo and drawing.
The managers of the reasturant where I was working for 2 years during my apprenticeship, what helped me to give me working shifts that could matching with my work in the tattoo studio.
All the friends that decided to make me tattoo them even if I didn’t have enough experience.
