Meet Simone Higginbotham

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Simone Higginbotham a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Simone, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I draw my resilience from a deep connection to with my immediate family, my passion for community, and dedication to empowering others through my work. Also, much of my strength is from the legacy of my mother, Florida Higginbotham, and in the many meaningful projects I lead, from the Weekend Girl Lifestyle website to Rebirth Magazine and Legend Awards BR. Ultimately fueled by commitment to creating spaces where women and community leaders can thrive, uplift one another, and achieve their dreams.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Simone O. Higginbotham is a visionary behind several impactful projects that serve women, entrepreneurs, and communities at large. Through Weekend Girl Lifestyle, I provide a space for women to explore topics of self-care, empowerment, and lifestyle enhancement, offering events, resources, and discussions that encourage connection and personal growth. Rebirth Magazine, another platform I lead, celebrates local heroes and stories, particularly those that inspire and uplift underrepresented voices, helping foster a strong sense of community pride.

What’s exciting about my work is the opportunity to create meaningful, lasting connections and to spotlight people and stories that might otherwise go unheard. Each project, whether it’s an event like the Serenity Vendor Market or the recent Legend Awards, is designed to celebrate resilience, inspire change, and provide platforms where others can shine.

Currently, I’m thrilled about our upcoming initiatives through Weekend Girl Lifestyle, like the Blossom & Brunch: A Weekend Girl Gathering in March 2025, where women will enjoy self-care stations, yoga, and networking in a vibrant, empowering environment. With each new event or project, I aim to help people build supportive networks, grow, and share their stories, adding to the collective strength of our community.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, vision, and community-building.

Resilience has been essential—navigating challenges while staying focused on the bigger picture helps keep momentum even when things get tough. My advice is to practice resilience by seeing every setback as a learning opportunity and finding ways to recharge and stay grounded.

Vision is key to creating something meaningful. A clear vision helps you stay aligned with your purpose and inspires those around you. For those early in their journey, I recommend developing a strong sense of purpose and setting both short- and long-term goals to help keep that vision alive.

Finally, community-building has been vital in every aspect of my work. Creating and maintaining relationships and uplifting others in the community have not only strengthened my projects but also given me an incredible support system. For those starting out, prioritize genuine connections and look for ways to collaborate, lift others up, and embrace the power of community.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Absolutely, I’m always open to partnerships and collaborations, especially with individuals and organizations who are passionate about community impact, women’s empowerment, and creative storytelling. I’m particularly interested in working with people from fields such as wellness, fashion, mental health, small business development, and lifestyle brands that share similar values of uplifting others and promoting growth.

If you’re a creative professional, entrepreneur, or organization that aligns with these goals, I’d love to hear from you! Let’s explore ways we can support each other and make a greater impact together.
